No, I'm not talking about the Croation Medical Journal (esteemed though it is). It is the CMJ "yearly music orgy":http://www.ohmyrockness.com that takes over venues all over NYC like a malignant tumor. I endorse the following shows:Thu 11/021:00 PM Figurines, Irving, Meowskers, The Village Green at Cake Shop 7:00 PM The Walkup, Grand Mal, J Dimenna, The Saucers, These United States (DC, represent!), Dogs of Winter, Planeside at Fat Baby8:00 PM Blue Cheer, An Albatross, Jacob's Ladder, Totimoshi, Ad Astra Per Aspera at Knitting Factory8:00 PM The Slits, The Apes, Genghis Tron at Maxwell'sFri 11/032:00 PM Tralala, Nethers, Mike Wexler, Effi Briest, Melanie Moser, Miso at Cake Shop2:00 PM White Whale at Gigantic Studios7:30 PM Architecture in Helsinki, Apples in Stereo, The Blow, Shapes and Sizes, Tenki at Irving Plaza7:00 PM Chin Up Chin Up, French Toast, Bound Stems, The Beauty Pill, The End of the World, Georgie James, Judah Johnson, Aquarium at Knitting Factory(CMJ - Tap Bar)** **this will be an awesome show as both Georgie James (fresh off of recording their debut album _Hello_) and the Beauty Pill (who never have shows) are playing. I dare you to go.Sat 11/041:00 PM David Bazan, Portastatic, White Whale, The Ladybug Transistor, Benjy Ferree at Soundfix RecordsThe Silent League, Dirty on Purpose, Palomar, The Shins, Bellflur, Apples in Stereo, Kissing Tigers, and the Watson Twins are also playing shows. Most of these are CMJ affiliated; most of them are free. I can't go to any 'cause I'm working all weekend.Go. Enjoy.

  1. Spencer Owen says Most of them are free? I didn't know that... wow. Beauty Pill? Killer. I still follow them merely on the strength of their first EP (and of Smart Went Crazy's Con Art). Also the Slits and Genghis Tron is an awesome combo. Nice.

  2. Emily says maybe not "most". amend to "some" or are listed as such online. the rest are super-cheap with the exception of some big draw 'name' acts.
