Dr. Dog on NPR
-
Artist:

Its a real love hate relationship I have with NPR music. On the one hand they are often a bit stuffy and middle-aged, but on the otherhand they are so so with it, with a huge wealth of music knowledge and celebration of the underground.
So when this week, a new "Tiny Desk Concert" (a series of small 3 or 4 song concerts in the NPR music office) came through with an artist I was unfamiliar with, again I was blown away!
In a similar style to when they had the lovely Thao Nguyen, Dr. Dog appears behind Bob Boilen's desk in the office in the middle of the day. Unlike the other more intimate and acoustic sets, Dr. Dog comes in full band, fully instrumented all looking to play their insturment to its full live potential. Its actually really great, and has a very different sound from the album.
Check it out, and if you're in Europe, they're on tour all around from next week. Looking forward to seeing them in London on the 4th of November.

you have to go see them live! they kill it! jump around all over the place. its lots of fun.
Yes, must see them Live... or at least, listen to their new c.d, "Fate" or the previous one, "We All Belong"...in its entirety to appreciate the songwriting, harmonies, diverse instruments and voices. If you "google" them, you'll find numerous radio show live shows they've done recently, and hundreds of live performances on youtube. They are very laid back and are just getting a glimpse of their day in the sun. In fact. many bands are now imitating them/their style, with their hat fetish, 2 lead singers/ song writers, switching instruments, etc.
is it a hat fetish they've got going on? they did have hats on when i saw them. quite like them in their hats. i am ashamed i still don't own "We All Belong." i got obsessed with "Heart it Races," their cover of an Architecture in Helsinki song. i recommend that tune.
I really can't wait to see them live in a week or so. From what I saw on the NPR thing and checked out a few on YouTube it looks pretty wicked.
I'm not sure about their hat fetish though... or their performace inside an office with sunglasses on... slightly dodgey. But I do like the hats.
Went out and bought 3 of their albums and am totally diging all of it. All quite varried but really really nice.
