Safe inside the day

Artist:
I know that this album was out nearly a year ago now, and that quite a few people have written very lovely things about it as well. But, in my attempts to write about something new and noteworthy, I realized that I don't work for pitchfock /rolling stone and get albums a month before everyone else.
I was intorduced to Baby Dee by friends in Copenhagen when I was living in Denmark. I found out she was a friend of my good friend Jon Whitney (who runs the music emporioum Brainwashed), and was fed so much hype about her before seeing her, I was waiting to have my breath taken away. And ... I definitely was.
Seeing Dee the first time was a rushed and last minute gig at the Icelandic record chop 12 Tónar, where she was playing only the acordian and singing dirty drinking songs. To date, this was the best musical happening that i've ever seen. I remember coming late, rushing in on my cykel, to see Dee hooting and hollaring in the shop to tunes of "Big Titty B Girl" and other dirty filthy songs. There was something so visceral and wild and incredibly skilled about her performance. She is a master of any instrument she touches and her voice is wild, yet uniquely personal.
One year later, 5 gigs later, 1 intamate dinner party with Baby Dee, danish friends and incredible food, I find myself reminded how great she truly is.
Safe Inside the Day is a true testamant to Baby Dee's amazing versatility and skill as a musician. The facts are told in every review: she is a former bloke who was trained in the church as an organist and used to drive a giant tricycle. Standard.
With Safe Inside the Day, you get to experience all the sides of Dee (minus the accordian, sad sad!). Her true flexibility is shown from beautiful and haunting piano melodies to hilarious and filthy drinking tunes. This album only gets better with time. I thuoght at first that she left a lot of her personal and intimate touch behind on this album, which to me make her best songs. But it seems she is showing a new face, to which I think many new listeners will want to listen.
* not an amazing video, but good audio, since I can't upload audio on here succesfully tonight *
