Posted over 5 years ago
What is the lesser of the two evils??? Can any good come from either of these cult like phenomenons? Which of these following is here to stay? Emo or the 80's Hair Bands? Are there any pro's to looking like Cher? Are there any pro's to cutting your hair with such devices as this?which make you look like this????Pro's from the 80's Hair Bands:Kiss = RockedGuns N' Roses = RocksTwisted Sister = Rocked (yet frightened me at the same time...)Motley Crew = Rocks and Tommy Lee is now an infamous Porn StarDef Leopard = RocksScorpions = Rocked80's Hair Band's music videos were the first to have hot scantilly clad women in their music videos... they were true pioneers for the music industry and were an inspiration to today's rap videos.Cons:Bon JoviSaigon KickVince NeilMr. Nasty80's hair bands encouraged emo dorks to wear make-up todayI need help determining if there truly are any pro's to this Emo phenomenon that plagues America's youth today??? Until I am proven otherwise... please enjoy this propaganda, i mean funny movie clip. Viva la 80's Hair Bands!!!!

  1. Dale says If anything, the emo thing reminds me more of the 80's Goth movement in the US, with the weird haircuts, makeup, and wa wa wa attitude.

  2. Anna says I LOVE this post!!!!!!! Hey, emo haircuts are way HAWT! You "mullet boys":http://mog.com/Known_Human/blog_post/17927#write-comment you...

  3. LaurseyP says The thing about 80s hair bands is, it's 2006 and if the band isn't still around, most of the members and, definitely, the songs are around. I think that alone means that hair bands will outlast emo bands (I hope...). Although, as per hair, I think I'd rather have an emo haircut than Dee Snider's mop.

  4. El Duderino says Viva la Mullet as well!!! So, here's another question... Is Emo the offspring, ginger, bastard child of 80's Hair Bands? Or did they crawl out from under another rock? I do admit that they share similarities... funky hair and men wearing make-up being a few of them. Or are these two seperate genre's? Even though I personally would never perm my hair and wear it down to my ass... I do admit that there was great music provided by such groups. However, I cannot think of great music that has been generated from the Emo kids... maybe too soon to say? Enlighten me...

  5. Anna says I think that all genres have roots in other genres. The interaction is inevitable & welcomed by me personally. It's difficult to define what one takes from another. I really don't analuze it that much, I just enjoy it. And yeah, I think it's too soon to say something about emo. Hopefully, their haircuts will carry on...sigh.

  6. El Duderino says LOL...it's all good, i am just bored at work and thought it would be fun to get into this truly philosophical debate of Emo vs. 80s Hair Bands. So you think the Emo hair cuts will out-live the Emo music? Or vice versa? Laursey P stated above, the 80's Hair Bands are still around... Just without the hair, their music carries their legacy. My next question... Am I too sexy for my mullet??? I idolize Lynard Skynard. Free Bird!!!!

  7. Anna says Hey, I like the haircut more than the music, so I hope it will outlive it. And no offence, but mullets are way too sexy (ew!) for anyone :P

  8. lemontwist says Hahahaha, awesome post. I have the same shirt as the guy all the way to the left in the second picture. (Go Mets!) All genres have their fashion, hairstyles, etc. 80s hairbands, grunge, emo, punk, goth, metal, pop... I don't believe that any one fashion trend is better than another, they're all equally ridiculous in their own ways. :)

  9. El Duderino says ^^^ spoken like a true music guru what music genre does the mullet fall into? I was thinking something classical...
    Permalink posted 10/10/2006
  10. lemontwist says Country western? I dunno, just thinking redneck... :)

  11. El Duderino says I must dissagree...David Bowie, Chuck Noris, Mike D (beastie boys), Little Richard (jery curl mullet) and Jamir Jagr have all worn mullets... much too cool for country western!!!! So if an Emo kid and 80's hair band dude got in a fight, who would win? Bill Swerki's Super Fans says" 80's Hair Band Dude 49 - Emo Kid 3. To prove a point...here's my family portrait ;)

  12. lemontwist says Hair band dude would totally win over emo kid. Emo kid would worry about breaking one of his perfectly manicured nails. But at least afterwards he could write a poem about it...

  13. Anna says LOL @ lemon! How many emo kids does it take to screw in a new lightbulb? 1 to screw the new one in, and 5 to write a song about how much they miss the old one.

  14. El Duderino says <<<<< fell down laughing Thnx Ana and Lemon ;)

  15. Takeshi Kovacs says Kiss was a 70's hair band - yes they bled into the 80's but should really be distinguished as influences to the 80's hair bands. Also, Motley Crew is spelled Motley Crue, and Def Leopard is spelled Def Leppard. There's an umlaut over the "u" in Motley Crue as well. But the mullet will live on in infamy.

  16. scum1 says I kinda prefer the rat tail over the mullet myself. Hair bands would beat down the emo kids easily. Hell the hairbands would be coked up and drunk and still take out the Emos. Of course afterwards the hair bands would have their way with the emo kids girlfriends and then pass out.

  18. Sue Slug says Emos are such pretty lookin boys..high maintenance am sure! But I'd have to pick em over the ghastly 80's hair..
