Cake is special

Cake struck a cord in my mind instantly with their popular song going the distance. Why, because it was different than anything else on the radio. The radio tends to drive me insane with brainwashingly repetitive junk. But at the time I lived with radio and other peoples collections because I couldn't afford anything. It took me awhile to really become a cake fan because of this. Once I owned fashion nugget I became hooked on their easy going, groovy, hypnotic, poetically unique, stylistic weave. I am ashamed to say that I have only been to one cake show after listening to one of my best friends rave about never wanting to miss a show in town for the last ten years. The experience: awsome fans, great sound, impossible not to dance...it moved me in a way that was altogether new. I don't think there is a bad cake album. Cake is Cake. Sweet, honest, silly, funky and always good to have at birthday partys. One of my favorite songs right now is The Guitar Man from the Pressure Chief album. I have a guitar dad and it hits right at the hearts home.

    lemontwist says I love their music, though, honestly, I haven't explored their albums past their radio singles. But their beats are catchy, the lyrics are funny, and they're just altogether very enjoyable and likeable. :) Good characteristics for a band! Thanks for inspiring me to go check out more of their tunes.

    faceplant says Cake is a GREAT band. I got into them after hearing "going the distance" on a rock radio station, and I was immediatly hooked. I have also (regetibly) only seen them live once at Roseland in NYC. They got the whole audience into it. Every person from the die hards up front to the ones in the back were feeling the good time vibes these guys were giving out. I would say that if you do not have a good time at a Cake show, it may be quite possible that you do not have a soul. My personal favorite jam by them is "Comfort Eagle." But there is not a single album I don't like. If you are a fan make sure to check out their website regularly, they post on alot of goofy / serious / political subjects. www.cakemusic.com
