Song of the Week: "Foundations" Kate Nash

Posted almost 4 years ago
A sunshiny break-up song that I can dance to. I've listened to this song 18 times more than you today. I can't help it: cuss words, biting cynicism, jangly piano, hand claps, the hypnotic accent. Plus it conveys the beauty and humor in failing relationships.I've always been more fascinated by shards of glass than panes. For the last week, every time I got into my car I immediately pushed in the tape deck adapter, hit play on my Sony Walkman CD player, and skipped ahead to the second track. If you somehow can't get past that last sentence and believe that I'm writing this post from the year 1999 you're wrong. It is the present day (2008), and yes, I know that people don't listen to music in their cars on CD Walkmans anymore. I've heard of iPods. I had one once and it broke and I couldn't rationalize spending all that money again when I learned that iPods had a shelf life of one to three years and I decided right then to become a Luddite (sort of).Enjoy "Foundations." I'm sure we can all relate to the fragility in our lives and hopefully appreciate it. One day it may be gone, but we'll still have to go on dancing, dancing, dancing.http://www.myspace.com/katenashmusic

  1. earthman says Ive got a walkman plugged into my Nissan truck, I like it that way. It also runs on second hand vege oil and I like that too, no one wants to steal it and way to old to bother trying to be cool. And just then my youngest Daughter walked by singing that song so thanks for delivering me to the edge man

  2. runobodyii says I've been hearing this one on the radio a lot which is sort of odd since I hardly ever listen to the radio and then gravitate toward NPR. The song is "simply irresistible. Sounds like you're a real earth man, earthman. Good for you.

  3. Edmund Frost Booth says I know, runobodyii, Earthman is amazing. I've had one Mogger confess that they were secretly in love with me, and I think I'm secretly in love with Earthman. He's always so positive, leaves insightful feedback, and lives off the land as much as he can. Do you have a sister, Earthman? Because I'm looking. Ha. Thanks for the Mog support and appreciating my random views on random events married with songs. LONG LIVE THE WALKMAN! I'm realizing that my simplicity is cool (or at least that is how I can sleep better at night).

  4. extraordinarypoems says Just saw your comment on someone else's page explaining that you are a college English teacher. That explains a lot about how wonderful you are, seeing as I am also a college English teacher. Ha ha. I understand you. We should talk more.

  5. Spike says That's a catchy tune. I can't find fault with it. She looks believably upset, and sings well. I wish I could get my car to play piano rolls.

  6. Mike the Knife says Is that the King's English or the Queen's English - or something else entirely?!? (BTW, Nash's tune is like a slightly frantic mirror of Lily Allen's "Smile" - and I don't mean that as a bad thing.)
