Just had to delete my stream of consciousness blatherings .... really it was just my way of responding to the contentiousness I have seen spring up here and there lately. This is what I meant to say anyways...
I must object! That was a very thought provoking stream. I waded in about waist deep twice before daylight distractions. Any comment I was formulating is now buried under the daily buzz. And hey, I'd seen that Riley disc around for years and never gave it a proper listen...very contemplative!
I was up at 6, so yes, I qualify. It's the afternoon now and I'm feeling sleepy, so this is sending me off to bye-bye land in the middle of the office. Thank you.
I have In C at home. It's also relaxing. Yet Terry's facial hair is totally disturbing. Go figure.
I'm with Scott, I caught your post before work and was brewing a response.
It is comforting to know someone else feels the same way I do sometimes. I not the most PC person on the planet but I listen and evaluate with my head and heart. I try to remain fair and give people their space.
Right now this Western Man wants to go to sleep and wake up when the world is right again. Pragmatic, no. idealistic, yes.
Hey ... now is exactly the time to be AWAKE.... don't sleep... these times are calling us to respond .... I think that is why we feel the pull to bury our heads so strongly ... I certainly do. Now I am back to the gist of my deleted post ... in times of stress, there is presented unprecidented opportunity for growth and healing ... alongside decay and destruction.
and yeah it may get a lot worse before it gets any better ... but then again ... we may have to define or redefine what we mean by better and worse.
Oh ... hey Colin ... nice to see you round these parts again.
The lesson of the buddha is to be awake. You're right, the key is that we will have to grow and redefine ourselves. Been doing it for 220 years. The premise of Tom Friedmans new book is just that, the need to redefine our economy so it is green and conservative in the old-school sense of conservation of resources.
dharmachris, I love reading Friedman's op-ed columns and reviews of his books. Let's hope he has some influence.
dermahrk, the Riley piece is hard not to like. Thanks for turning us onto it. I love the record cover and your deft pairing of images. What device is in the photo?

Your tune made my morning easier to get into.
