Yeah .... seriously .... 4 Organs and a Drummer

Posted about 4 years ago
Apparat Organ Quartet is a project of Icelandic musician and composer Jóhann Jóhannsson. Slightly Proggish, A bit Kraftwerkian, definitely Icelandic. Not sure how they get four keyboardists to gel like this but they do.

  1. Bartleby says That was simply incredible... You have a knack for pouring into my ear the most exquisite aural poison ever, Nick. I don't know where to start. The organs produce a telluric tremor don't they? Especially with "Ondula Nova" and "Charlie Tango." There is indeed a sense of earthiness and natural forces which make Apparat Organ Quartet unremittingly Icelandic as you've said. To compliment this, your choice of soundscape with "Romatika" just does it for me. I've been trying to come back to my lost electronica love and this is definitely a right step both in that direction and in the future. I'm going to try and score more of your crack. Really grateful.

  3. Neill says I really need to get over to Iceland and have a look around. How do 300,00 people keep producing all this fantastic stuff?

  5. amber says Wow...you'd think that 4 organs would just be a sonic cluster F but it certainly wasn't. Thanks!

  13. Dzendvokh says Thanks Levek for the extra info... I actually posted a comment a number of hours ago but it has disappeared into the bowels of Mog... an 02 release huh, that's older than even I thought.... maybe it was released a little later over seas or something. I think I read somewhere that they will be putting out a new album in the near future. If folks have not seen "Screaming Masterpiece", you might want to find it.... it is a doc on Icelandic music.... not the best documentary in the world but still worth checking out.... it features these guys live, and of course Bjork and Sigur Ros.... but many other lesser known bands also They did mention that for a population of 300,000 there is something like 3000 music and art schools. I definitely need to check out Heima Bart .... it was your post that dislodged the musical association in the first place. Glad you all enjoy. Here's a song not on this album.... maybe on the next.
