I have always regretted not making it down to Mali when I was just North in Morocco. I can't imagine how amazing a concert like this would be. Maybe someday......Le Festival au Desert occurs annually at Essakane, Mali.
The song is from the Tuareg group, Tinariwen, formed in the early eighties in Moammar al-Qadhafi's camps of Tuareg rebels. Their new album, "Water of Life" is excellent. Great tune. Great album. Cool festival.
It's exciting to actually see Ali Farka Toure and his peer group sing and play in Mali. Great music!
