  1. ivylander says Love it. I've been looking for a bridge between the old stuff (Oum Kathoum) and something contemporary, but the new stuff seems to be mostly poppy fluff. This is the way forward....

  4. Dzendvokh says Ivy, I have got a ton of Fairuz, it kind of depends what period you catch her in as to what it sounds like, she has work that sounds more like umm kulthuum and work that is more poppy (although she always sounds like fairuz). I have a lot of other arabic music that is less well known but still not the full on pop that you hear so much in the middle east. Most are on cassette and I have been meaning to get some way to digitize some of that collection. I'll post some other stuff you might be interested when I get the chance. cool video danny thanks for that. Fairuz is a gem. My pleasure brendan

  9. Bartleby says Again Dzen, your posts are a true wonderment. I got first acquainted with Fairuz through a Lebanese friend of mine. Her voice is magical Sight an sound combine to make a perfect track for a night tune. Thanks (Isn't it incredible how cheap her cassettes are sold in the street markets?)

  10. Groon says This is wonderful. I love middle eastern and arabic music, but don't honestly know much about it. I mentioned before on someone's post that I spent time in Uzbekistan. While there I discovered a singer named Sherali Jo'rayev. I have many cassettes by him, but luckily I have an older free standing CD burner that I have used to transfer things to digital. I shoudl do that and post some here.

  11. Dzendvokh says Thanks B and G Groon that was one of my posts I asked you about Uzbekistan. That would be great if you could post some of that, I have not heard too much Uzbeki music. I picked up a ton of cassettes in Egypt and other places in the middle east, I just need the right adapter and i'll be putting some other stuff up here, maybe a bit less well known.

  12. Groon says That's right--have to admit I was too lazy to go back and check to see. I'll get some of that on here at some point.
