Simple Guster Love

Continuing with the theme of only ripping the best and most essential music to my computer: Yesterday I put in Guster's "Keep It Together" and thought I would listen to it through to see what was worth keeping. The answer, dear readers, is everything. It had been awhile since I'd experienced this album, so I'd forgotted how wonderful it is. "Keep It Together" is beautiful and brilliant. There's a feeling about it that is comfortable, but reflective and a little on edge. Right now I'm listening to "Jesus On The Radio" and remembering how I had the pleasure of hearing it acoustic when I saw them in concert. Now that was a moment. And so much is communicated in so few words. I also adore "Careful," "Diane," "Backyard," and "Ramona." I feel there are things about "Red Oyster Cult" and "Homecoming King" that would cause me to like them less, but they blend in with the overall project, and I find "Homecoming King" beautifully orchestrated musically, if that's the right way of putting it. Then there are the songs that make up what seems to me a dreamier, more solemn layer, "Come Downstairs And Say Hello," "Long Way Down," and "I Hope Tomorrow Is Like Today." These songs have my spirit brooding and soaring. And only Guster can pull off a bonus track about Noah's Ark and the Flood. Which actually fits well thematically with the song "Keep It Together." In short, "Keep It Together" is amazing and I highly recommend it to everyone.
