Continuing with my record label theme, go on over to Daptone Records for some serious DEEP FUNK.

The stable of artists is small, but powerful. Sharon Jones is a living, breathing and most important touring recreation of 70's soul. Think Lyn Collins of JB fame.

The superheavy organ of Sugarman 3 will remind you of the rare grooves of Blue Note. John Patton, Lou Donaldson and Grant Green rolled into one.

Like Fela? The Daktari's do a fine tribute.

And my new personal favorites are the Poets of Rhythm.

You can listen to more at www.daptonerecords.com.

Let me know if you have any independent funk labels you dig.

Check them out. I can't say enough about this label. They not only bring us current sounds like The Black Keys and Fiery Furnaces but turned the masses on to blues legends RL Burnside and Junior Kimbrough.

Try and watch their DVD "You See Me Laughing" only once.

Makes me smile every time I watch this DVD or listen to one of their artists.
