I lived in New Zealand when I was a kid (I was an army brat and my dad managed to get a very unusual post there). Because of that, I have a soft spot for the country. I stumbled across "New Zealand Music Month":http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/culture/love-new-zealand-music a little late this month. "**Poi E**"The Maoris (the native Polynesian people of New Zealand) have worked hard to keep their language alive in day to day use. So, in 1984, a linguist joined up with a songwriter to create a pop song in Maori. When none of the record labels in New Zealand would release it, they created their own record and through word of mouth and some television exposure created a number one hit.Yes, the break dancing seems a little campy two decades later. However, the song just makes me happy.More info athttp://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media/video/poi-e
