WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Epitonic Days Pt. 1 - Bald Rapunzel

Posted over 2 years ago
Before MOG and Paperthinwalls and Betterpropaganda and several dozen MP3 blogs where you could find new artists, a brave little site in Chicago called Epitonic hosted a slew of independent artists. I think I started downloading tracks from Epitonic eight or nine years ago (yes kids, there was an Interweb back then). Epitonic had a slew of labels including Matador and Kill Rock Stars. As I was breaking in my new cable modem at the time, Epitonic provided me with a bonanza of new music unseen since my college days. Epitonic is currently on intermittant hiatus. However, I've been listening to a record that I first heard on Epitonic and has now mysteriously vanished.Bald Rapunzel put out one record - co-released between DC label Resin and Dischord. While their overall sound mirrored that of countless post-Jawbox bands from DC, the band was distinguished by the singing of vocalist/guitarist Bonnie Schlegel (though the rest of the band were no slouches - drummer Katy Otto stands out in particular). While you'll have a hard time finding their one and only CD - Diazepam, you can still find this one track on Epitonic.com and here.
