So i clearly have been listening to Rihanna's album if you check my recent songs list but it's much better than I expected. I definitely expected a bunch of cheesy "this is my 3rd album full which will be full of crap because i insist on putting out as many albums as humanly possible" songs... but yea, i really love the song Breakin Dishes. okaaay so my second thought on it is that most likely anyone over the age of 25 probably wouldn't give it a second chance buuut.... im not even 20 yet. so :P take that.

Thank you facebook. I knew my incessant checking of facebook's new features would pay off... So apparently this Oregon native won Oregon Idol. I have honestly been listening to the 7 or 8 tracks that you can download for free off facebook nonstop since yesterday.

But are there no native Oregonians on MOG? How has no one written about her yet?

I don't remember how old her bio says she is but she looks pretty young. But her songs are so bluesy and voice is incredible. She sings and plays the piano on I believe all of her tracks. They're so refreshing from this stream of over-produced songs I've become used to listening to.

If you don't have facebook, go to her website (www.debraarlyn.com) or check her myspace (www.myspace.com/DebraArlyn). Definitely worth the trip.

underrated artists anyone?

Um... so still rebuilding my music collection, does anyone have any underrated or generally unknown artists they'd like to share? As in, someone I may not have heard of but you think the world needs to listen to.

Please...

Muchas gracias

songs that never die

So in browsing the top 100 videos on launch.yahoo.com, I absolutely looove that there are songs from my childhood like Barbie Girl and Ice Ice Baby that are still viewed by millions of people everyday. It's frickin hilaaarious. In 100 years, will our grandkids' grandkids still be watching those videos? How insane...

Similar to Amy Winehouse but a bit bluesy kinda. I don't know if that's an accurate description but she's another one with a kinda soulful sound to her. Definitely worth a listen. Maybe even a legitimate download via iTunes not Limewire people! Or you can go to her myspace and get some tracks for free... www.myspace.com/alicesmith

i'm so in love

I'm so in love with her sound. So I, like the dork I am, subscribed to Questlove's blog on myspace. From which I was introduced to the music of Amy Winehouse. She has an old soul kind of appeal to her. The only thing I'm hating is that because she's not yet released to the US her cd costs about $35 to order but I'm gonna see if I can itunes it or somethin. At least do yourself the favor of going to her website or to her myspace.

Okay.... So I've been hearing alot of my friends talk about this album and how they don't think it's as good as his albums before and that he's no longer on top of the rap game. Well I think they're wrong. The main thing about this album that sets it apart from his others is that he is a 30 year old man and that is evident in his songs. He acknowledges it and I feel like he makes better music because of it. He's not spewing out bar after bar about how he's going out at night to show off his money and bag as many hoes as possible. Let me put that a little more clearly for some of you, he's making real music. We all know that he made oodles of money from past albums and is still making oodles of money. He doesn't need to prove that. On his album, you hear him address the situation with the dissolution of his friendship with Dame, the death of a nephew, his breakup with Beyonce, Hurricane Katrina, and how he's matured since turning 30.

He's a real man and he's talking about more than the same small time catchy things that make good commercial music. This album is more on a level of "I love the rap game and I feel like I have something to say about life". So sure, if you're looking for an album full of "Show Me What You Got" then you're obviously going to be dissappointed. But for any Hove fans that actually want to see how he's progressed it's a great album with good r&b collabo's on it. Definitely worth a listen. Even a trip to the actual music store to buy the legitimate copy of the cd.
