Daniel Smith (AKA: Brother Danielson) has decided to take his family band back on tour in celebration of his new retrospective anthology "Trying Hartz". It's been 2 years since he has done a US tour and it is an exciting time for fans like myself.
In this time, prodigees of Smith's such as Sufjan Stevens, have taken the artist's influences and style and reached wider and wider audiences.
If you would like to know more about Daniel and the Danielson Famile, there is a terrific documentary from 2006 that was made called "Danielson: A Family Movie" It shows the rise of Sufjan's career and follows Daniel up to his last studio full-length release "Ships"
The movie is being streamed for free right now on Pitchfork.com, but only for this week.
Here is the link for the film (CLICK HERE)
Here is a video for the song "Did I Step On Your Trumpet" from Ships
(also featured on the special features from the DVD version of the documentary

I didn't know Sufjan Stevens was a prodigee of this guy, but looking at the video I'm not surprised. Thanks for the heads up on the documentary. I'll definitely have to check that out.
Yeah, the documentary actually has a lot of footage as Sufjan as his drummer. Over time he began to open up for Daniel and just continued to perfect his own craft until he took off on his own.
