Funky Friday: Baby Charles

No, not Baby Huey (although the afro is similar)... Baby Charles.Dionne Charles fronts the band "Baby Charles," out of Brighton, UK, shows a love for The Meters here, and that's always OK by me. On other tracks, I hear a dip in the Dap-Tone pool. I say, "come on in, the water's funn-kayyyyy!"Here's a track off their 2008 eponymous debut.

    Bartleby says Very, very groovy. I missed their album launch party at Pigalle in London some weeks ago. -- They did a pretty sassy cover of Arctic Monkeys' "I Look You Good On The Dance Floor" which got many people confused. Loving it. Thanks for funking up my night.

This harkens back to old school(s) from the Fabulous Flames to The Isleys, and Ms Charles has listened well to Aretha, but also maybe Mahalia in the long notes. Thanks for this buddy.
