So I'm not really into social networking, or the so called 'blagging,' but I do love the music. And so I think I'll start things off by choosing one of the best covers of one of the best songs by one of the best solo artists: A Perfect Circle's rendition of John Lennon's Imagine.A band like A Perfect Circle (APC) really stands out in my mind because they're one of the few bands that understand a musical style so well to be able to take it to a new level. APC, at its core, is an emo band, but the difference between APC emo and other bands is their level of haunting guitars, and lyrical depth.Their Imagine cover (written by the truly wonderful John Lennon for those who decide to hate music) takes this song that was supposed to be uplifting by allowing the listener to 'imagine' what the world could be like, and completely changes the feel, tone, and meaning of the song with out changing the words.Maynard's minor toned vocals approach a mournful derdge that somehow exemplifies the sorry state of peace in the world. Paz Lenchantin's haunting violin almost reprises the Psycho murder music and takes the song from piano melody to a scary realization of how much time we don't have to change the world for the better. And underlying is a pulse from the piano that marches on into the inevitabilities of war.No other cover of John Lennon's perfect anti-war song brings to light the truth of how hard it is to live in peace in such a fashion as A Perfect Circle.EDIT: Ha ha, I had it that Paz Lenchantin played the guitar...
