MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

(115)

Special

It's been a while since I've crowed about my favorite Danish imports, and by now most of you MOGgers are on board. I picked up And The Glass Handed Kites back in October '05 based on a review in Drowned In Sound, but had shelved it, and hadn't given it a full listen.

One year later, I shuffled my tail to Lawrence and saw them open for Kasabian. Once I saw them play live, it all clicked. Now, this album is my happy-time music; it always brings a smile to my face, and occasionally a tear to my eye, as I sing along. Mmm, more falsetto, please!

Oh, too late. I already bought this album, and Frengers, off Amazon last week. But you can count it if you want. GodDAYUM I love me some Mew. Why aren't there more bands like them?

Why aren't there more bands like this? I can hazard a guess: it takes serious helpings of creativity to make this kind of sound. Listen to the drums; they're really amazing, very inventive rhythms. Playing watered-down Ramones songs and talking about imagined pain is so much easier.

I agree, I love the drums on "Am I Wry, No". I must again listen to MEWWWW!

Very interesting. I remembered that someone on MOG was obsessed with Mew, but I forgot who. Other than that, I've never heard the band, and like what I heard today. Thanks.

That someone was likely me, Mark; I went through a stretch from October through December where I listened to that album almost non-stop.

Oh hush Michelle, we all read your post about them, just deal with it. Besides, it's my week, and I'm living it up!

Puff, this post was inspired from listening to Frengers in the car while picking up the boys from school.

Dale, do you have "A Triumph for Man"?

Posted

Dale says:

Yup, sure do. It's not at the same level as Frengers or And The Glass Handed Kites, but it is good. I'll post for ya.

Puffmagic says:

No, I've got it, I was just making sure you do. I have the 2 Disc dealie.

"Oh hush Michelle, we all read your post about them, just deal with it. Besides, it’s my week, and I’m living it up!"

That _SLAYED_ me ... it's a good feeling, no ???

I have this strange feeling - do you _LIKE_ MEW at all Dale ??? ;)

Dale says:

Hmm, I'm wrapping my head around "evil, in the nicest possible way."

Oh come ON iodapril, I paraphrased directly from High Fidelity. So it's Mew instead of the Beta Band, it still fits.

Yeah, you could say I like Mew

JUST A WEE BIT

, Ms Lizzie. Heh.

Michelle, don't make me do to you like I did to Ashley, you don't want that.

mktackabery says:

oh, now we see the real EVIL in the EMCD come out, see everyone? This is what happens when you get stuff from Dale. First they love you and then you are a stone around their neck, and then they start abusing you. See??

Oh Michelle?!? :::clears throat::: Are you my lady, are you my lady, are you, are you? My lady, are you my lady, are you my lady, are you, are you?

You are a bad, bad man. You know that right? "I will now sell four copies..." - oh the humanity.

(must listen to some Mew tomorrow....)

Dale says:

Hey Ashley, I hoped you would stop by! I'm channeling my Rob Gordon bigtime right about now. That'll teach MOG HQ to give me any kind of award or recognition.

It makes me happy seeing mog-freaks like you embrace this danish band. I've never been a fan but I do have my copy of "Half The World Is Watching Me" which later turned into Frengers........with some extra songs added.

The picture was taken north of Copenhagen. I used to go there a lot. Makes me really homesick.

I don't keep up with the band. I only have this album.I never thought I would post a song by Mew.............but this one is for you Mew-lovers. Heard it before?

I guess it's gonna take me a year to get into them or more cause any Mew I've heard is all just meh to me. Not sure what it is exactly, they just haven't made much of an impression on me yet. Sorry Dale.

mktackabery says:

mew, rhymes with spew, makes you poo.

Dale says:

Oh Michelle, so bitter! Tsk tsk.

Give it time, August, just give it time. See, Mike likes it!

So Henry, you got any other addictive Danish bands that you've been hiding from us all this time, huh? :D

The Broken Beats are pretty good.

Under Byen is my favorite.

Veto...........good band.

The video is amazing.

Kashmir has been around for ages. Bowie sings on this one.

This guy is the best there is. He has been on the danish scene for a long time his label releases the best and most interesting albums in Denmark.

His name is Nikolaj Nørlund. Sometimes he's Rhonda Harris. He's always good. He releases albums in both english and danish. His label is here: www.auditorium.nu

This is an old video from the mid-90's. The song is still good.

Dale says:

Good stuff, Henry; Under Byen and Kashmir grabbed me right away, but the song by Veto got under my skin too. Thanks.

Posted

Good to hear, Dale. I must admit that the danish scene is nothing compared to all the great artists in Sweden.

(You still love me, right? Right?!?)
