While trolling the interwebs looking for a nice wallpaper to replace the Mew angel (yes, it is an angel) that has been on the old PC since October, I found this slice of heaven in a hardcover. I WANT THIS!
(from amazon)
A creative juggernaut of the post-punk era, Factory Records was the catalyst behind the U.K. music explosion of the late '70s through the '90s with groups like Joy Division (soon to be the subject of an Anton Corbijn movie), New Order, and Happy Mondays leading the New Wave. At Factory, musicians and designers commingled creatively, with innovators such as Peter Saville, Den Kelly, Mark Farrow, 8VO, and Barbara Kruger elevating album covers to a new art form. The label broke further ground when it opened its own disco, the legendary Hacienda. Factory Records is the ultimate and only collection of Factory's complete graphic output, including every single piece it produced: extremely rare record sleeves, club flyers, and posters all gathered together for the first time. A must for collectors and enthusiasts, Matthew Robertson's meticulous compilation of underground ephemera is poised to introduce a new generation of music and design fans to the creative genius of Factory.

I'm getting warm fuzzies just from the cover, which reprises the cover to my beloved 12" of Blue Monday.
Just so y'all know, my birthday is in late July, so you've got at least two months. Just sayin'. :D

My Trusted MOGs
Good call, Dale. It's on my list as well, in addition to a Hiroshi Sugimoto photography book and some other rock'n'roll poster stuff.
My Trusted MOGs
Oooh I want that!
My Trusted MOGs
I know! I don't even have a coffee table, or coffee for that matter.
My Trusted MOGs
Great post and what a great book. Will have to keep my eyes open for that one.
My Trusted MOGs
The cover of the book+ the fact its a cover of a new order album = must have! Are you trying your EMCD ways in other media now Dale?
My Trusted MOGs
here's a coffee table for you, dale:

My Trusted MOGs
what happened to my comment?
My Trusted MOGs
Yes, Kevin, my EMCD aspirations have extended beyond music. I fully intend to strut around in a year or so, labeling myself "EMCD of all media" like Howard Stern.
Melissa nixed the table, ebuzz! :(

Your comment remains, but I've noticed some goofiness on the MOG today. If you don't see a comment you made, just refresh, and it should appear.
My Trusted MOGs
I saw that it came back, MOG has given me the eebie geebies today

I saw that it came back, MOG has given me the eebie geebies today
My Trusted MOGs
You can say that again.
My Trusted MOGs
OH - I think I need this! You would also probably like this v23 / 23 envelope did the design for most of the 4AD covers until the late 80s ... cool stuff
My Trusted MOGs
Oh, you know me and 4AD stuff. Vaughan Oliver was another of the genius label artists of the 80's, and I was unaware that there was any books of his artwork. Sweet!
My Trusted MOGs
There are also posters :)
My Trusted MOGs
Looks like an awesome book. In 2003, when I was in London, I saw this exhibit of Peter Saville's album art: http://www.designmuseum.org/design/peter-saville Very inspiring.
By the way, we just pushed some new comment caching code, so things may be a little wonky but will improve, I promise!
My Trusted MOGs
Ooh, posters! We're planning on finishing our basement, so I'll have lots of blank walls to cover.
No worries on the code, Kate, I guessed there was new code as soon as I saw that the comments now no longer indicate how long ago they were posted, but the time they were posted. It's all good.

Real nice find!!

Side note to Kate ... I liked the ... posted 36 minutes ago better than the time - as I can't change my time to suit my location (or can I) ??
Dale - you're right - it's a must ... tell you what - if you get me one for my b-day, I'll get you one for yours :)
Three other amazing coffee table books I have:
Herman Leonard: Jazz Memories.
Jazz.
& last but certainly not least ...
The Frames-Behind the Glass.
I had no fing clue that the Herman Leonard book was going for that much money ... plus mine's signed ... holy crapanoly !!!
I just hope this slightly illiterate computer girl got the above correct ... we shall see ...
My Trusted MOGs
Yup, worked out nicely, Lizzie. I see The Frames worked its way into another comment. You might be more single-minded than I was during my massive Mew phase late last year. :)
My Trusted MOGs
What a lovely -hint- post. hehe I wanna, too! It looks finger lickin' good :)
My Trusted MOGs
Heh, glad you took notice. I lurve Pater Saville's work.

I knew very little about factory records until I saw "24 Hour Party People" and I was blown away. I consider that movie in the top ten of Rock n' Roll movies. thanks for the post.
My Trusted MOGs
Very cool.
.......... ..... .. . . .
(it's a bunny)
My Trusted MOGs
Yeah, suuuuuure it is.
My Trusted MOGs
Got the Herman Leonard book, too (and it's signed by the man hisself, lizzie), but this one sounds/looks mighty appealing, Dale.
