MOG MOG

WHERE E=MC HAMMER

(115)

This track looks at home, right between New Wave Wednesday and Under The Covers Sunday. Besides, I don't ever get to play on Sundays, so I might as well put this up now.

This week's exploration of all things loud and sugary landed me at the MySpace page of Brooklyn dream-pop band Dirty On Purpose, who hooked me right in with their clever reinterpretation of Real Life's tasty new wave nugget "Send Me An Angel."

And, for those who weren't born way back then, here's the original video from Canadian new wave band Real Life.

Oh, what the heck, here's another cover of the same song, but industrial mavens Zeromancer. On second thought, never mind. I've never seen so many anime music videos without an official video for the song. Look at them all here.

Ahem. My theme for the night is I keep running into things like song titles or rhythms that remind me other songs. So, I see "Send Me an Angel" and I wonder if it's a cover and then I'm like nah, you've been thinking that all night and you haven't been right yet. I click play and it's actually a cover. Cool, points to chuck. Read on, and get smacked in the face with being an old lady. Haha....

Tres cool cover though.

Hmm. I am not a big cover song person. Not that I do not like a cover song every now and then. Overal this cover was not working for me, but I did hear enough that you have still piqued my interest in the band overall. Any, non-cover songs you would throw out to us hungry MOG masses? Thanks Dale.

I like these, actually. And I do want someone to send me an angel today because I am feeling blue. It actually needs to be a Gabriel who will light a fire under me and get me motivated.

Ashley, you know I don't want to hear your "old lady" talk, ya whippersnapper. Glad you dug the cover.

Mike, I don't have anything more to upload, but their MySpace page has some original tunes for your listening pleasure. I'm torn on whether covers are a good way or not to get a taste of a new band. In this case, it worked out well for me, but I've been turned off by a cover only to find out that the band's original material is good. Caveat Emptor, I guess.

Sorry, Tamara, fresh out of angels. Mine took the form of my brother-in-law, who managed to reinsert the oil dipstick into my car, which I had been unable to do for a half-hour. Yes, I'm _that_ mechanically retarded.

Don't feel bad, Dale. When I try to check my oil, I can't tell a damn thing by looking at that stick. I'm convinced it's some giant conspiracy; the stick is really useless --- people just say you can get a reading from it in order to confound and humiliate the rest of us. :>)

That IS dirty on purpose, Dale. Dark, dark version. And I like it, too.

Yes, you really should Faith-Ann, especially since they're so close. Just a lucky climb through Myspace hooked me up this time.

So, so tickled that everyone likes this. This is one of my favorite 80's nuggets, and a well-done cover is just icing on the cake.
