Film School is another of a bevy of noisy pop bands from the Los Angeles area, that have been emboldened by the success of Silversun Pickups. Their music is strongly reminiscent of Ride or Disintegration-era Cure, with walls of reverbed guitars lying atop a beefy rhythmic foundation. The vocals vary from song to song, with the vocals on "Sick Hipster Nursed By Suicide Girl" (unfortunate title) strong and deep, otherwise higher and further in the mix like on "Two Kinds".
I blame Erin for this latest musical obsession, as she kindly shared a copy of their debut album. Their second album Hideout comes out on September 11, and from the advance I've heard, it's well worth the wait.
