Random musings while I wonder how Lucy's doing since she left MOG and Multiply:
I don't think I mentioned it before today, but I'm an uncle again! Melissa's baby sister gave birth to a small but healthy boy on the 21st. Morgan got to head to Provo, UT with his grandma (Melissa's mom), but they didn't make it on time. Melissa left last week to go help too, but she's coming back with Morgan tomorrow (um, Thursday, left coasters). Oh yeah, his name is Brody. W00t!
Congrats to Pekka for being MOGger of the Week, it's well deserved! One of us! One of us! One of us!
Recently, I've been listening to a TON of Lush, though you wouldn't know because it's all been from the laptop or the Gigabeat. Last night, I walked on the treadmill while listening to Split. I had forgotten how much I love that album. It fires up wonderful memories of being young, living in Tucson, newly married with a baby boy of our own, going to college part-time, and working at call centers for hours on end. Even with all that going on, most of my memories of that time are very happy. Specifically, I recall driving to the campus for an organic chemistry exam, walking out knowing I'd aced the test, and running out to the car to go tell Melissa, blaring this song in particular the whole way.
This is my favorite "things are bad, but they'll get better" song. Here's the lyrics, courtesy of LyricWiki:
You feel like I do Like the whole world's forgotten you And your life is so dull and predictable
Your room seems like a cell And you don't sleep very well And your friends only talk to point and to mock And to ridicule
One day things won't seem the same way, I know
Morning in the mirror Things will suddenly seem much clearer I promise, it's alright
His words don't flatter me And they're printed for all to see I don't care, he's not there It's all history
The future's yours to hold And you're really not very old And your life is so white, so clean and so bright And holds mystery
Morning in the mirror Things will suddenly seem much clearer I promise it's alright
One day things won't seem the same way, I know

Congrats Uncle Dale! Don'tcha just love it when a song evokes a great memory!

You mean I'm not the only uncle around here anymore? Great song & band too. Congrats!

It is your duty as a MOG uncle to ensure that the child is introduced to the best possible music ASAP ;)
Congrats to you and all the family Dale.

Thanks, Dale. Happy to represent, (Although a paragraph from last week's mogger write-up for poebegone had slipped into mine.)

Fantastic Lush tune, but they really do not have any 'bad' ones as far as I'm concerned; congrats on becoming an unkle again - Brody's a fab name!

Lush is pretty Lush. Love em. Big congrats Uncle Dale! Do you have a brother named Chip? :)

Thanks everyone for the congratulations! I'm now an uncle three times over, but Brody is my only nephew so far. My nieces are 8 and 4, and live here in Wichita.
Told ya you'd like Lush, Desiree! Muwahahahaha.
Yup, those kind of memories are the best, Jill.
Now you're an uncle to an uncle. Kinda makes ya feel old, huh? ;)
Floodsy, I will uphold my MOG uncle duties to the best of my ability. ::salutes::
As well you should be, Pekka, no way you should have been after me.
Word on "no bad Lush tunes", Girlcrawl. This just happens to one of my favorite "hidden treasure" tracks of theirs. Even their B-sides were golden.
Sam, that's a good one. I haven't heard that since I heard it EVERY DAY OF ELEMENTARY SCHOOL! ARGH!
Actually I don't think that makes you any relation, unless I'm discounting that twice-removed or whatever, which I've never figured out properly. It's all good, I'll just let Brody know that he has three MOGmothers. :D

I try to lash at other people's names when I have the chance. My name was a huge source of jokes in elementary. It's funny times when my neice and nephew would call me Uncle Sam in public.

Congrats eh, always nice to have another family addition. :) Nice name too. :)

Gee thanks Dale for pointing that out, hehe! I know I'm old already dagnabbit, but fortunately I have good genes so most people think I'm ten years younger(especially since I don't act my age either or want to!)

Congrats, Dale! Love tune, too.
