Number five, baby

Baby 81, that is.Just so you know, I'm no music journo or insider, surrounded by advance releases, so when I get something early, it's pretty exciting. When a wonderful, special, beautiful person up and sent me the new Black Rebel Motorcycle Club album, months ahead of its release, I got pretty excited. See, you must understand, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club came along just as I was noticing the hole in my life from the lack of new Jesus & Mary Chain material. Their debut album blew me away, not because it slavishly aped the output of the might Chain, oh no. They carried the spirit of the prime Jesus and Mary Chain into the 21st century. The debut's got too many highlights to list here; besides, this is supposed to set you up for the new album. So, another album comes out that sounds too much like the debut, and the world yawns. A third album comes out that sounds too much unlike the debut, and again the world yawns. And here it is, at last, a truly worthy follow-up to that amazing debut album. The lessons learned from the trad-Americana side trip that was Howl were not set aside; rather, they were added into BRMC's sonic arsenal. Organ makes frequent appearances, most effectively on the lovely faux-gospel of "All You Do Is Talk". However, the snarling rock beast that spewed forth "Spread Your Love" returns with a vengeance, as on "Berlin" and "Need Some Air".As always, the first single is a cold killer, with "Weapon of Choice" utilizing a acoustic strum that quickly falls below cavernous drum hits, with lovely sonic tidbits like vocal harmonies on the bridge, showing that the band (still quite young) are still growing.Enough talk, more listening is needed here.*Weapon of Choice*Oh yes, don't forget to give me your list, if you haven't already done so, for the "+MOG Best of 2007 So Far+":http://mog.com/Dale/blog_post/91726.Here's how things are shaping up:MOGgers To Contribute: *48*List Items Contributed: *446*Unique Albums Contributed: *209*Albums Nominated Once: *152*Albums Nominated >= 10 *8*I want this thing as fair as possible, and the only way that will happen is with more contributions. Keep 'em coming.

  4. chucky says I'm kind of impressed that out of only 48 people, there are 8 albums that have been nominated more than 10 times. I think that probably says alot considering people's differing tastes. Nifty.

  5. Dale says My thoughts exactly, although I'm more impressed that 209 albums have been nominated. I wouldn't have spotted 209 albums I've found noteworthy, much less liked.
