WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Reminder #2 and my #9 choice

Posted over 2 years ago
So far, 29 brave souls have filled out lists for the "+MOG Best of 2007 So Far+":http://mog.com/Dale/blog_post/91726. That's awesome, and I'm thankful for those that have contributed so far. I'm a bit concerned that it won't be representative of all of MOG; to be honest, it's not even 10% of those that trust me. So hopefully you guys are still debating your lists. I will be collecting lists until Monday, July 16, at the link above. And now, my choice for the #9 album of the first half of 2007:This should not surprise anyone, as I did "+post about the album recently+":http://mog.com/Dale/blog_post/79067. While I would agree with those that have said that the music on the album isn't as imaginative as that on the debut, the lyrics on here prove that Eddie Argos is, in fact, the patron saint of all music lovers. I actually laughed out loud the first time I heard "Pump Up The Volume", and most of the songs at least make me giggle inside. So, seriously, who do we talk to to get Eddie his own MOG page?

  1. Terry Staunton says Eek! I'm frightened that my choices may not be that representative of the MOG community, but seeing as there's a coupla hundred thousand folk signed up to this weird world of ours, it would be foolish to even attempt to appease the masses. To that end, and off the top of my head, these are the records that I've found myself playing incessantly. As someone who gets payed to listen to records, a lot of my time is spent giving a spin to stuff that encroaches on my time more than I'd like it to. However, here's handful of stuff that has stuck with me once the demands of the day job have subsided... Bill Kirchen - Hammer Of The Honky Tonk Gods Alan Tyler - The Lost Sons Of Littlefield Nick Lowe - At My Age Crowded House - Time On Earth Cowboy Junkies - At The End Of Paths Taken Ian Hunter - Shrunken Heads Lucinda Williams - West Richard Thompson - Sweet Warrior Buffalo Tom - Three Easy Pieces The Polyphonic Spree - The Fragile Army This has been a "Will This Do?" presentation on behalf of Terry "Yikes! Too Much Pressure!" Staunton Productions

  2. Dale says Meh, representative has nothing to do with it. All MOGgers come from different circumstances, so like fingerprints, musical tastes are unique. I will happily add your choices with the others.

Dale rocks for collecting & compiling - but he *RAWKS* for other reasons too numerous to mention :) Keep them coming Terry - we need to be reminded of the great music to come out of 2007 that may have slipped our minds... Crowded House, the Junkies, Lucinda & Buffalo Tom - absolutely super cool !!!

  6. Dale says Thanks to both Terry and brainofj for their contributions, but to be clear, if you have a list for the MOG Best of 2007, please post it in the post linked above, not here. Of course, I'll still read and add lists posted here, but it makes my life easier, and provides a "one-stop shopping" experience for those who want to see all the lists. Thanks all!

  11. chucky says I *do* like the lyrics of the songs by them I've heard (by which, of course, I mean the ones you've posted..haha) but why won't he sing them?

  12. Dale says To answer that, let me play their first single: "And *yes*, this *is* my singing voice."

  13. doombilly says Sorry I seldom get a CD in the year it comes out. Most of the new stuff I have been listening to also has been local stuff that isn't properly recorded or an album yet.

  14. Mike the Knife says Noble effort, Dale. But the only lists I make are those "Things to Do" lists. That said, I am currently knee-deep in the latest by The National and Autokat and Editors and Ryan Adams - but don't put 'em on any list, dammit!!! ;-)

  15. chucky says But he's not singing in that...oh wait I just got to that part. Ok, so that *is* his singing voice. There is something wrong with his singing voice...ahem. hahha

  16. Dale says There's only something wrong with his voice if you don't like it. :P
    Permalink posted 07/06/2007
  17. chucky says Haha...that's kind of like when Michael yells at me and I tell him to stop yelling and he says I'm not yelling, that's just my voice. Yep. Uh huh. That wasn't Michael's "inside" voice and that is not that guy's singing voice.

  18. Dale says Ear of the beholder, m'dear.
