Pre-Millenium Tension, in shoe form

I got a nice MOGmail about the shoes that have been my avatar for some time now, so I thought I'd share a little about them. After all, they are my default concert shoes, and always make nice conversation starters.(I know, I'm talking about shoes. I'm officially running out of content.)Back in '99, our family of four (Melissa was pregnant with Josh) was living in Longmont, about 15 miles northeast of Boulder. I was slogging away in roughly the same job I hold now, as a Windows systems administrator. It really was a slog, too, as I was one of two admins for about 50 Windows servers, and had the primary responsibility for getting them ready for Y2K. That led to many late, long Saturday nights making changes, and naturally led to a very grumpy and lonely wife.Things weren't all bad, though. We were waiting for a house to be built, and I was finally making decent coin. Melissa could freely indulge in some shoe shopping. For reasons that escape me, the Ross and Marshall's stores in Boulder were constantly getting Doc Martens and other brands of sweet shoes. So, as we're getting close to Christmas, Melissa calls me from shopping, and asks if I'd be up for some "pretty wild" Docs, because she found some for $35. I'm not normally very adventurous in my dress, but I'm also very cheap, so $35 Docs sounded good to me.We had an early Christmas that year, as Melissa and the boys headed to Kansas to visit her family, so I could be alone with my 7PM to 7AM shift, as Y2K neared. She handed me my shoebox, and I tore into it to find these beauties.!http://mog.com/pictures//0000/0000/3776/pictures/40763.jpeg?!I had been listening to a LOT of Tricky at the time, so in honor of his most recent release at the time, and the stresses of my job, they became my 'pre-millenium tension shoes'. I wore them throughout Y2K, which went smoothly. OK, I wore them just about everywhere, mostly because they looked so great with jeans.Almost eight years later, they're beaten and scuffed up, and tears are forming between the soles and uppers, but I still wear them to concerts, because they hold such fond memories. They remind me of challenges overcome, and stresses that make me stronger.Since this IS Hip-Hop Thursday, I give you my favorite song from the album. Here's "Christiansands".
