EMCD back on the job - Lush

*For Love*Now that are notifications are back, I can once again feel free to infect the MOG with music-crack all the live-long day. MUWAHAHAHAHAHA!Today, Lush's excellent cover of the Wire track "Outdoor Miner" has been coursing through my PC, and I felt the need to share.Lush came along my way from a short interview in Details magazine in spring 1991. I was intrigued, and snapped up the Gala album, which neatly compiled their early UK EP's, with the "Sweetness and Light" single on top.Speaking of sweetness, the first thing that strikes me about Lush's music is the sugar-sweet vocals of Miki Berenyi, especially when paired with guitarist/singer Emma Anderson. Initially, their guitars were loud and droning, in classic Cocteau Twins direction, which makes sense, given that Robin Guthrie produced the Scar EP and debut proper album Spooky.By second album Split, Lush had smoothed out the more abstract guitar lines, and many of the effects, as Miki and Emma became more comfortable in their voices. However, they could still kick up some righteous noise, as evidenced with:*Hypocrite*After their excellent Lovelife album came out, Lush looked poised to capitalize on the Brit-pop scene fueled by Oasis and Blue. Alas, twas not to be. Drummer Chris Acland hung himself, and the band went into hiding, announcing their disbanding two years later._Sigh._ What could have been? However, Emma Anderson is still involved in music, as part of the band Sing-Sing. While not quite as addictive as Lush, they're quite good as well; their album Sing-Sing And I is quite nice.Enjoy!
