... and it is done!

Posted almost 5 years ago
So I had my final weigh-in this morning. The news is good, y'all:In the past twelve weeks, I have lost a total of 62 pounds, or 28 kg.(Data demon alert)That works out to over 5 pounds a weekor about 17.5% of my previous weightand I'm under 300 pounds for the first time in 13 years.(end Data demon alert)My goal shirt, a green Smiths "The Queen is Dead" T-shirt Melissa bought me for Christmas 2005, now fits properly. Unfortunately, it seems like nothing else does; all my clothes are now too big. I suppose that will happen when you drop about five inches off your waist, and about three inches off your neck. I used to not be able to button a white shirt in my closet; now, it hangs loosely off me. Aww, darn it. ;)Now, for the contest I'm in, I have to sit tight and wait until 5 May to see how I did in the competition. However, I do not intend to go eat an entire pizza anytime soon. Over the past twelve weeks, I've developed better eating habits and exercise habits, and I intend to hold onto those habits for a very long time.Since this is, after all, a music site, let me add something appropriate.See, there's less weight for me to pull. Heh.

  1. 1234chainsaw says You really are a big loser, Dale. (I'm even worse, though. I was never able to button a shirt in my closet. I can only do it when not in my closet.) Seriously, big congrats. I hope you're feeling as good as I am about quitting smoking (six months in a few weeks). You miss some things but on balance it's good.

  3. angeldawn says Weigh to go! sorry, but I do think you've done a tremendous thing. What's most impressive is how you didn't lose enthusiasm for it - you continued to lose even more pounds at the end of the 12 weeks than you did at the beginning. On Jan. 1 you said: That’s my biggest obstacle with losing weight: I REALLY like eating. I’m not sure how that will change, unless this process, which is to last 12 weeks, is designed to make me despise food. Look how far you've come! Healthy habits, clothes that hang on you and I think you really dig this fresh food menu. Clap for Dale! { }

  6. etcvisitor says "Over the past twelve weeks, I’ve developed better eating habits and exercise habits, and I intend to hold onto those habits for a very long time." keeping up the good habits is the key. if that smiths shirt is the only thing you have to wear, then atleast you will look cool while your wearing dirty clothes.

  12. Blue Meenie says Way to go Dale! Bet you feel more energetic now as well. A little exercise can really get the oxygen flowing. Can't wait to start riding my outdoor bike that really takes me somewhere instead of all that pedaling at the gym... :-)))

  13. mktackabery says Dale, as someone who has also lost a lot of weight and made major lifestyle changes, I want to sincerely congratulate you and encourage you to keep on going. Keep looking for ways to exercise and eat right, keep moving your body and you are going to be fabulous. You will feel better all the time, I promise. Being in better shape improves your sex life, your mood, your relationships, your outlook on life, your career, everything, because you feel GOOD not bad. Stay positive and remember this day when bad days come back and you're tempted to eat an entire pizza and say "fuck it," because you will; but if you remember your triumphs I promise you, you will put that pizza right back down. Much love and good thoughts!

  18. Dale says Thanks, everyone. When I was thinking out this post, I was going to name those people that I though had really provided me support when I needed it, but that would have been a LOOOOOOOOONG post. To anyone that read this: It is the love and support of MOGgers, combined with the love and support of my family, that has brought me to where I am now, and will hopefully help me continue to my final destination, wherever that may be. I love you all, so so much. Words are failing me.

  27. Dale says Heh, you sound like me twelve weeks ago. Here's something to think about, Peg: The best bite of any food is the first, so what's the point of eating a bunch of the same thing? Variety and small portions allow me to still love food, and lose weight at the same time.

  28. Peggah says Snacking is so much of an unconscious thing for me. Thanks for the advice though... if I can try keeping it in mind, then maybe I'll be a bigger loser than you ;)
