WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

The CD Switch

"Anna's post today":http://mog.com/Anna/blog_post/37191 gave me a brilliant idea.My father-in-law's coming back to town for a weekend or so. He's a notorious 50's and 60's music junkie, and I've already enabled him by showing him how to burn CD's on his new laptop. Here's the plan: I'm going to replace his CD's with the following CD's:The Detroit Cobras - Mink Rat Or RabbitThe Detroit Cobras - Life, Love And LeavingThe Detroit Cobras - BabyThe Raveonettes - Pretty In BlackBlack Rebel Motorcycle Club - HowlLet's see if he notices. If it goes as well as the video below, I might earn 'Best Son-in-Law' ever kudos, which would be nice.

  1. Joxley says for some reason I don't think The Detroit cobras have the same appeal as Isabella...I'm just surprised your not throwing some Mew in there.

  2. Dale says So bitter, Jox. Unfortunately, they're a bit too comtemporary. In truth, AC/DC's a bit too contemporary for him.

  3. Neill says Maybe the Pipettes as well?

  4. Dale says Oh yeah, good thinking.

  6. Anna says For teh record, I have nothing to do with Dale's evil plan #2.

  7. Universalis says Give him something new... A Hard Day's Night - The Beatles (1964) But maybe these guys have too long hair ya know 8=) Yesterday Chucky stated you are the kinda evil devil, now i see she was right 38-)

  8. Dale says dermajean, I've not heard the Come Ons, so I'll check them out and get back with you. Anna, I can't believe you'd ditch me like that. Universalis, no dice, he falls squarely into the Beach Boys side of the Beatles-Beach Boys debate. My in-laws even got to see the Beach Boys before the 80's happy-schmappy schlock-fest hit them.

  9. Neill says JMC - Darklands Oasis...

  10. Dale says Nope to both, he's hit "Happy When It Rains" and his head would explode. Either that, or he'd throw the CD out of the car in one reflexive motion. And Oasis stinks too much of the Beatles, see comment above.

  11. Universalis says Nevertheless, that same year da Rolling Stones came out with 'The Rolling Stones' album as well. Here in Europe the debate was much more focused over Stones vs. Beatles. I always wanted something like this : The Rolling Beats Mick Jagger : singer Keith Richards : guitar Ringo Starr : drums John Lennon : bass add whoever you like at the keys and another guitar and you have it !

  12. chucky says Oh, then you should also try the exact opposite and give him some Big Daddy. If one tack doesn't work then maybe the other will. (I can't believe I'm encouraging you. Heh.)

  13. Dale says Who's my willing accomplice now? :)

  14. BellaVendetta says If you are gonna go Detroit style, you have to stick in The Sights and Outrageous Cherry for that 60s and 70s sound. Thank you Chrysler.

  15. chucky says Heh - when I'm not on the receiving end, I am totally down.

  16. jimmybearpearson says Hee hee! If he's a good-natured chap, it would be truly funny. Of course, having his originals hidden somewhere for him to find them would be good. You could record a message to him about his music (and about the replacement music) on one of the CDs... fun, Yes?

  17. Dale says Could do that, yes. Good idea!

  18. fairportfan says *chucky says:* Oh, then you should also try the exact opposite and give him some Big Daddy. Ohh, no - have i corrupted yet another group with the crazed weirdness that is *Big Daddy*? If so, then that's done, and i need to start proselytising harder for *Cowboy Mouth*...

  19. El Monko and Son says The White Stripes are in pretty strong retro mode on DeStijl. Very Zep/Kinks. It is also a great album.

  20. lemontwist says How about some Stooges and/or MC5?
    Permalink posted 01/09/2007
  21. Dale says Ha! Although I'd love to see his head explode to "Kick Out The Jams", I daresay he'd notice the difference between that and, say, the Righteous Brothers. His tastes haven't grown in the past 45 years. It's kinda sad, and heaven help me if I ever get that way.

  22. lemontwist says If you get that way, Dale, I'll go to Kansas and bludgeon you over the head with the Mew Retrospective: Three Decades of Hits boxed set (to be released in 2025).
