Never been to the Upper East Side, or any part of NYC for that matter. To be honest, the concept of a city that large totally freaks me out. I know, it's completely unreasonable, but there it is.
I'm fixing to write up a big long embarrassing missive about myself for your entertainment later, this is just a teaser. And an excuse to share a song from an album from this year that I've finally starting playing and enjoying, from Austin's Experimental Aircraft.
This song hits some very good notes for me, with a good strong bassline and drum rhythm allowing for all sorts of fun droning guitars and cooing female vocals trading with stronger male vocals. Three minutes in, you'll think the red button's gone all goofy as the song stops, only to start over again. Wicked fun!

Well, that's great. No wonder I found them, the late great Jenny posted about them here.
And lookie here! Rachel from Experimental Aircraft is an infrequent MOGger! Go figure.
Ah, NYC isn't too intimidating...actually, it is but it's really not that bad. I'm feeling the Upper West side more than the East but either way, nice track. Great bass line.
I have never been to NYC as well, and like you the city as a whole scares me a little.
Glad to know I'm not the only one Kevin.
And as an extra bonus, here's the first track from their album:
Didn't go to the UES when I was in NYC. Rented an apartment in Harlem, and spent a lot of time in the LES, Gramercy Park, and Williamsburg.
When I was a teenager, I wanted to BE Marlo Thomas "That Girl" just so I could live in NYC . (I was born in the Bronx but my family moved to the suburbs of Long Island when I was 5). I could never afford to live in NYC , but did the next best thing - raised a daughter who inherited my love for th city She spent 4 yrs at NYU and now teaches in NYC. I get to live vicariously through her city adventures. The UES isn't the heart of the city to me though - I much prefer the Lower East Side /Village culture. Do love this song though :)
I think I have some Experimental Aircraft laying around my hard drive somewhere . . . I'll have to go check them out again.
I'm not a big city man myself, either. I'm constanty trying to figure out ways to move farther away from people. But, I have been to NYC three times, and loved it each and every time. but I don't think I could ever live there.
NYC, pphhh! Can't stand the place.
The avatar says you lie, Dave. :P
I've got plenty laying about if you need more, Chuck.
I wonder how many people were inspired by that show Debbie. It's very nice that your daughter has inherited that love from you.
How long were you in Harlem, Heath?
Let me add that my phobia is not just to NYC; Mexico City and Tokyo freak me out too. My only explanation for being comfortable in LA is that I grew up in California and am accustomed to the culture there.
I, on the other hand, love the big city feel. :)
I picked up this album based on a recommendation from Jenny, and seeing you post about it, tells me that both Jenny and me did well :)
That's a dark mixdown there Dale, diggin' it. I miss Jenny, had just met her when she opted out.
Been to NYC twice in the 70's and loved it. Much as I'd like to try livin' it, don't think that's in the cards...but you just gave me a postworthy flash, so thanks!!
Anna-belle, I figured as much. I dunno, guess I'm weird like that. It takes me a while to get comfy, but I love Denver and it's not tiny.
Yes, you and Jenny both did real good. Here's a cookie. (::) :)
I'll be looking for that post, Scott.
yea! great experimental aircraft song! i miss jenny's posts too...
my gf wants to move to LES, yikes! i want to move to brooklyn and hopefully fit in...probably a pipe dream for someone from NH
Forget the UES Dale, Brooklyn is where its at..We'll treat you right.
i'm with you, big cities scare me.
Big cities are the best places to be all alone.
By 'eck, cracking riff, that.
Mind you, Urban Lonliness Is A Myth
sounds more than nice, Dale-o! i guess i am a city girl myself. i like to be outside the city for brief periods of time but not for very long. i can relate with what Dave says that it's best being invisible in the city ('though i'm following that link to investigate, Colin.)
now where's that big long embarrassing missive you speak of...?
New York rocks (I live there)
So does this song (it unashamedly goes on longer than it has any right to) ;-)
Good stuff
wow! really nice to be getting some love here on MOG. thank you!
Certainly! :)
