10 Artist Comebacks for which I am grateful

Posted over 3 years ago

Ah, Thanksgiving. It's a good time to look back and think of all the good things that have happened the previous year. In fact, I was remarking to Melissa earlier today that we had had no car trouble and no illnesses in our little family the entire year, for which we are both VERY grateful.

Tomorrow morning, we're headed out to visit our dear friends in Ozark, MO. This is the third time I've done this trip since MOG entered my life, and it's always a little bit hard to tear myself away, not that I ever fully tear away. I'll still sneak off and borrow their PC to check my e-mails, because it gives me so much joy to e-chat with my Trusteds.

I want to give you something to stir the imagination, all you Rob Gordons out there, so I hereby give you another Top 10 list in albums for 2008:

Top Ten Artist Comebacks For Which I Am Grateful

Again, please, this is just for entertainment purposes only; no gambling.

  1. The Charlatans - You Cross My Path
  2. Secret Shine - All Of The Stars
  3. Portishead - Third
  4. For Against - Shade Side Sunny Side
  5. Wire - Object 47
  6. The Notwist - The Devil, You + Me
  7. Bauhaus - Go Away White
  8. Tricky - Knowle West Boy
  9. The Verve - Forth
  10. The Breeders - Mountain Battles

I'll be back home late Saturday night, but if I don't see you before then, have a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend. Or just have a nice rest of the week, non-North American friends.

Have fun and happy early Thanksgiving! We'll miss you!

Love this top 10, and especially the fact that Tricky and For Against are there.

I need to try harder to make you a Nick Cave fun, methinks ;)

Had to do a double take when I saw Britney's "Circus" in the imeem player - but sadly it's just an ad. Good to hear the Charlatans back on form, that's a cracking song. Wire and the Verve are the others I have to explore from your list.

Anna dear, I knew you'd love Tricky, but For Against surprises me slightly.

I'll have you know that the EMCD At Work T-shirt made the trip. In fact, I'm wearing it now under my football jersey. XOXOXO

And I DO like the Nick Cave album (thanks be to you and Erin mostly for that), but after last year's Grinderman album, it didn't feel like a comeback, you know? More of a "happy he's still around".

And STOP GAMBLING ON MY PAGE! Naughty girl! :*

Careful Jameson, I'm not on my PC and therefore susceptible to having to view swearing. My tender eyes can't handle that.

Frankly Mr. Fluxy, there's enough verbiage on MOG already on Britney without my help. The charlatans need the hype much more, and are much more deserving. :)

You have EMCD-ed me so many times, that it's only natural that you don't remember all the bands you forced (lol!) on me :)

So glad to hear that! I still remember the facial expression of the person who was creating it...as priceless as your musical gems :)

    Oh, I see....you're sly...good Cave save!

Sorry....too many shows...could use some pocket money...maybe turn a blind eye this time, in the name of music! :)

lists! more lists! i love it. i'd never have listened to Object 47 were it not for you.

another comeback that's in my head is The Wedding Present - El Rey. i've had the album for quite some time now but i'm sad to say i haven't gotten into it and don't know if i likey or not. too many listenings on queue but i'll try my best to give it a proper spin before the year ends.

I didn't realize the Weddoes had a new album out, I'll need to give that a spin as well.

"One Of Us" is an addictive little number, isn't it? Maybe the best pop song Wire has ever done. Now I'm listening to it again. See what you've done? :)
