Go ahead, put that red button in your Post-Punk Friday and smoke it.
There was a time, a long time ago, when I didn't have every Cure album readily available to me. I hadn't delved into the back catalog beyond the Japanese Whispers mini-album, didn't have that desire to have every song Robert Smith committed to tape/vinyl/plastic/whatever.
Taking a chance and picking up the Concert casette changed all that. Oh, the Concert side was good enough, a romp through some of the big songs from the The Top album and earlier. The live version of "Killing An Arab" alone was worth the dollar extra for the import. The B-side, Curiosity, is where things got really fun.
In my himble estimation, this version of "In Your House" trumps the studio version from Seventeen Seconds. The drums certainly sound punchier, less dry. Also, the song leads with that familiar guitar line, much more at the front of the mix, which gives a chance to really enjoy the trance-like state.
I wore out this cassette during my extended Cure phase in high school. Those wre the days when people wouldn't ask what was in my Walkman, they'd just ask which Cure album I was listening to that day.
In a not-so-fun example of the first being last, I had lost this album since the cassette died, while having digital copies of all the other Cure albums readily available.. The impending release of 4:13 Dream reignited my curiosity (heh), and I was able ro find a copy on the interwebs. Yay!

Early Cure, at their punkiest.
Vintage Cure, and on the interwebs, too, nice!
"Those wre the days when people wouldn't ask what was in my Walkman, they'd just ask which Cure album I was listening to that day" you are the biggest Cure fan I know. Second biggest would be one of my mates back in Greece hehe
I enjoyed this version thoroughly, dearest brother :*
Well, I was the biggest Cure fan. Honestly, I haven't been excited for an album of theirs since Bloodflowers. I'll still get 4:13 Dream, still give it a chance, but I'll more likely return to this album.
Sorry I've been scarce, relatively speaking. Speaking of which, I need to go exercise. I'd rather be sleeping. Sigh.
Happy exercising, dear (I don't know how you do it, you are a medical marvel to me)!
:)
niceee. funny, i spent a good deal of Thursday night watching early Cure videos after i remembered that 10:15 Saturday Night was my first favorite music video. agree on the Killing an Arab live version and, unfortunately, the self-titled album (the one they put their name on!) was a massive disappointment to me. but never mind that, i don't love them any less.
there was a time where that was a walkman assumption made of me, too; around the same time that every mix i made had a cure song on it, often one on each side.
i have not heard this song in ages...thank you for the reminder. now i want to go out and replace some of my cure cassettes/vinyl.
Anna dear, I only made it 20 minutes. I've got too much stress to get relief even in exercise. That's pretty bad. :(
Ilay, that is a really good video. Nice and simple. Might have to look that one up on YouTube.
I'm not surprised Lucy, just delighted. :)
If I can extricate myself at all today, I'll try to post something.
thank you, dale.
i hope my favorite classmate isn't having too stressful of a day.
*hug*
No cultural artifact seems to be too out of reach today - and this material is sweet nectar for the Cure-aholic.
