I'm liking the Lala peeps already, and some great news!

Posted about 2 years ago

First things first: I wondered if the days of 200-comment posts were over. I know that the complaint has been heard from many of us old-time MOGgers that the community had been lost. However, these Lala people get it. There's some great back-and-forth going on, and it warms the cockles of my heart. Oh yes, it does. Keep doing what you're all doing, because that's MOGging done right!

And now, the news: You may recall that I had posted my frustrations at being laid off. Yes, that end date with the current employer is coming up at the end of the month. However, the horrors of this past two months have all been worth it. Yes dear trusteds, I have accepted a new position with another IT company, and will be starting June 1. So no time unemployed for me this time ... YAY!!!

The job's similar to my current job, but actually at a lower level. However, there are quarterly performance reviews and lots of opportunities for growth. Plus, I get to develop skills that I had never learned or that had atrophied from lack of use in the current job. I had to take a pay cut, and agree to work graveyard shift at first, but I should be able to move up quickly enough that it will not be an issue.

I haven't ever gotten to the best part. You see, the job is not in Wichita; it's in San Antonio. I get to move within a ninety-minute drive from Austin, baby! I'll have to be careful to not blow out my ears at too many shows. I'm downright giddy at the prospects. And yes, we intend to buy a house that will hopefully have room for a good layoff spot during SXSW for my friends. I'm already getting the hook-up for all the good fried/smoked food joints in the area. YAY!!!!!

So I must now solemnly promise to not go a-stalking the local bands, such as:

Yeah, like that will work.

great news, Dale.  you'll also have more money to spend on band shows since the SA Spurs won't be playing hoops 'til next season.

    kidding aside, congrats!

Congrats!  San Antonio and Austin are the only places in Texas I've ever visited, but they're both great places.  It's a lot warmer than Kansas too :)  You've gone through your last Midwest winter, my friend.  I'm so happy for you!

Congratulation Dale, San An is a great city...and I mean that even if I did just move away!  You will be within easy driving distance (to a Texan) to TONS of great concerts and not just in Austin.  There is Houston and Dallas and even Oklahoma City if you just loved a show so much you want to see it more than once as it goes through the area:)

Oh, and as a Lala peep, thanks. You MOG oldtimers have been so wonderfully gracious.

Can I get the couch along with Amber?

And yes, hooray to the lala crew! They've breathed new life into mog and I'm absolutely chuffed to have them here!

Again, many grats. You've made my whole day with your news.

Awesome news.  That's fantastic to hear.  I know all about looking for a job (but nothing about securing one, yet).  It's a dog-eat-dog world, especially in IT, so it's great to hear you found something.

Speaking of our Lala peeps - There is a ILYBICD vid. I've never seen that one ex-Lala-itte featured.   Looks as if "The Owl" cut was on the aforementioned album that "According to Plan" is on but for some reason, it isn't on the version I have in my Library. Research time!

Congrats Dale!  I have a few friends that have been out of work for quite some time now so it's great to see someone land one!

I think the MOG members have, in turn, been a breath of fresh air to the lala members.  I haven't been this active in quite sometime.  And you guys have been so gracious by letting us crash in your house (Biker Chick never leaves BTW - she's like a squatter.)

Dale, this is wonderful news. That part of Texas is indeed wonderful. (The Matriarch of Ivyland retired to the Austin area, and the clan has been to San Antonio a couple of times, always with great pleasure.) I have five words for you: Louie Mueller's in Taylor, Texas.....

    Whoa, where to begin?

Cindy: I intend to keep my ears peeled for anything new and good from the area, and I'll get the word out.

Robin: I've always respected the Spurs, so maybe I'll be able to grab a seat at a game sometime, though not this spring, as you astutely mentioned. TIMMEH!

Kevin: The move's gonna be interesting, since I'll be leaving Melissa and the kids to sell the house, and renting a room until the house sells and we can buy a place there. Sharing a house with strangers that aren't going to be family ... it's gonna be weird.

Julia: The kids aren't too pleased to be missing out on snow, since they've known only Colorado and Kansas. Melissa and I have done Arizon though, so the lack of a true winter is no big deal.

Tara: Thanks, and now I'm off to secure the time off in March!

Rex: Yeah, there aren't much better live-music communities. I'm giddy to check out places like Emo's.

Amber: No couch! You'll get a spot on the bed, and you'll like it!

Aiea: Since my only vice is music, I feel pretty safe. ;)

Visible Light: Since any show I want to see is a three-hour drive at least, I'm comfortable making the drive. However, I'm glad that I don't have to do so anymore.

Anna: I'll get to work on that "new big house" part right away, and you may share a bed with Amber. No guest of mine will sleep on a couch if there are beds available! And yes, the Lala people have been a breath of fresh air, and it's been wondrous to behold.

Darla: Yeah, it's an 11-hour drive from Wichita, nothing to sneeze at. Still, it's going to be nice to get acquainted to Texas by driving though it. I'm looking forward to that.

Eric: Yeah, ILYBICD has one proper album out, called Fear Is On Our Side. Both "The Owl" and "According To Plan" are therein. It's a good album, def check it out.

Ferguson: *snicker* Ahem, anyway. NPR was talking about the job market getting better slowly, so hopefully your friends that are out of work find something quickly. I feel very fortunate to find something. Oh, and as Anna can attest, I welcome squatters. ;)

Biker Chick: What, these old things?

Bill: Louie Mueller's ... duly noted. Got the map and menu and everything. LOVE me some brisket, which is good since I'll be able to partake of some good stuff there. :)

Cody: Yup, no more complaining about no shows coming through my neck of the woods anymore.

All: Thank you so much, you're all far too kind.

Austin, for crying out loud!

    ps- ...that sofa better be durable because, indigent as i am, i haven't given up on Mogmeeting y'all, at least within the decade. (;
