Baby, baby, baby wants a vampire!

Here's my theory on why song get written about vampires: They're the ultimate "fornicate and run" boyfriends. They suck you dry, and leave nothing but a hollow shell. I think that most bands that have had exposure to groupies understand that sentiment. When I think of vampire songs, though, I think of goth, since that particular genre continues to do its utmost to embrace the vampire aesthetic. Here are a few songs that I came up with, off the top of my head, that use vampiric imagery.Tones On Tail - Christian SaysBauhaus - Bela Lugosi's DeadThe Sisters of Mercy - Body And SoulMy Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - After The Flesh'Nuff from me. Let's hear from you.1) your theory on why songwriters use vampire imagery.2) your favorite vampire songsHopefully this post will really suck ... your blood.

  2. Anna says They use them cause they are: attractive, mysterious, erotic, bloody, lusty, sexy, hurtful, dark, hawt. Did I mention sexy? I want to be a vampire when I grow up. Or a pirate. I dunno any vampire songs but I will suck the life on repeat out of yours (mwhahahah)

  6. SamTheButcher says Well, I think I already mentioned in your Halloween post: "Bloodletting" by Concrete Blonde. There's also "Moon Over Bourbon Street" by Stingy. The new one, though, is off of my favorite album of 1998: "Do The Vampire" by Superdrag (off Head Trip in Every Key)

  7. QueenofHell says Okay and vampires exchange bodily fluids - blood is representative of other bodily fluids. Dracula can be seen to be about necrophilia, group sex, oral sex, orgies, adultery and more I believe.

  11. Dozen Black Roses says 1) vampires are always dark and mysterious, and sensual....what better imagery to fantasize about? 2) I always think of Bloodletting/the vampire song by concrete blonde....total tie in/homage to Interview with Vampire by Anne Rice

  13. SamTheButcher says Oh, and I just figured out why songwriters write about vampires - they're fellow creatures of the night! I mean, who else besides rock stars get to stay up all night and sleep all day? ;)

  14. chucky says Bloodletting is my favorite vampire song, but it has already been mentioned. So I'd add: Riboflavin by 45 Grave and Dracula's Wedding by Andre 3000. My take on the appeal of vampires is that they are immortal. They have all of eternity to do what they want and never suffer any consequences for it.

  15. rei says Musicians know that sex sells, and vampires are about as sexy as you get - they're usually immortal, eternally horny, and easy on the eyes. Unless you've seen Nosferatu, which turns the whole concept on its head. The Cruxshadows - Last Breath
