My album du jour and a race reprise

Posted about 4 years ago
I still find myself instinctively reaching for this album on the Gigabeat even though I have a couple hundred other albums. There's nothing better for working out.Just to underline the point, I give this example: This past Tuesday, I went to the YMCA and got me a good workout, lifting weights followed with a 500m swim.I walked out of the Y tired yet exhilarated, endorphins kicking hard. I had been listening to Unknown Pleasures on the drive in, but was dissatisfied with it now that I was leaving. I pondered what to queue up when an idea struck: EVERYTHING IS! I switched to it, cranked the volume, rolled down the window, and scared the poop out of the gossiping cougars with all that \m/.And to reprise my lost race results post, I finished my first 10K in *56:42*. Mind overcame body for sure, as my left leg wanted to cramp real bad, but I ran right through it. I got a nice shirt and participation medal, and the thrill of doing something really cool that I never would have considered last year, not to mention two years ago.My next event, if I can manage to get a bike together, will be the local triathlon. That explains the long swim, since the first leg is a 750m swim, followed by a 20k bike ride, topped off with a 5k run. If that doesn't happen, there will also be a 10-mile run the weekend before Thanksgiving.

  2. mocha louder says nice choice - i really like this band - even though it's (for me) the kind of music i have to really be in the mood to listen to...

  3. Dale says Kat, I regret to inform you that you're probably right. I can't whip you into that kind of shape. Only you can. Fitness is 98% mental, imho. I'd be very happy if you did do it, though. :) M, it'd definitely not lounging music, that's for sure.

  4. jenny says Nice Dale...i've always wanted to try a triathlon, but I'm not a very strong swimmer. Maybe someday, though.

  5. Oatmeal says Wow, swimming is my definition of hard core exercise for some reason. Probably because I never gave it a shot and I consider myself pretty athletic.

  6. Dale says Yeah, the swim still kinda bothers me. I used to be a very good swimmer, but it takes me about a month of swimming to get back in the swing of things. Then again, I also had the layers of fat to keep me buoyant, heh.

  11. Dale says Kat: Make it today; I know you can do it if you put your mind to it. :) (grabbibg Amber's smooch, saving for later) Inspiration? Geez, I dunno guys. :::kicks a rock::: Oh, on the cougar thing, I have to add this: I had mentioned to Amber last week that I had gone to the Y to work out, and she said something about "cougars at the Y". My first thought was, "Well, duh, there are LOADS of cougars at the Y, that's their mascot." Then I realized that wasn't cougar she meant, and got grossed out. Heehee. :)

  12. Zeroskilz says Dale, honestly, you are inspiring. Keep up the good work. Now quit scuffing your shoes on the rocks. :)

  13. 1234chainsaw says Hahah, this record was my running music just yesterday. It's still a pretty frequent listen for me, too. Now if only I could make myself do 10K runs... I'm sure you can pull off the 1/8 triathlon.

  14. Dale says Pekka, I've got to keep swimming, as I'm not so sure about the first leg, but the rest isn't bad at all. And I had the bonus of finding out that I can almost finish a 4-mile run in the time it takes to listen to this album.

  15. Mike the Knife says Run, Dale, run! Lately, it's like you're starring in the inspirational widescreen epic "Chariots of MOG" - plus, you're the film's music supervisor. Yeah, that's a kewl track. Even the cougars I know might like it.

  16. poebegone says i can't stop laughing at Mike's "Chariots of MOG" although i'm one of the peeps who appreciate and could use the inspiration. i'm "moving" to Coheed and Cambria this week, a lot less cool than Nine Black Alps but i like to variate. all in all, i am scared of the word "triathlon" - more power to you! ;D

  18. Dale says Mmm, the fountain. Haven't been called that in a while, must have been off my game. :)
