Moving right along ... Top 10 albums of 2001 please!
-
Artist:
OK, so step one of my grand aggregation project got off to a slightly lackluster start. No worries, let's see if we can get it sorted for 2001.
My allegedly infallible source for all disputes (allmusic.com) let me down completely on the BRMC album. The official discography says it was released in 2001, so if you had it on your 2000 list, best go remedy that. Sorry, all.
I will continue to use allmusic.com to resolve year-released disputes, however I can be swayed to believe that it may be wrong. Point me to an official discography if you feel that your fave album was in fact released in 2001.
2001, to me, was the year that rock 'n' roll returned to the public consciousness, as people discovered The Hives and The Strokes, and The White Stripes released White Blood Cells and did videos with Legos. Rap-metal started to die a slow painful death, and electronic music faded back into its previous niche. Of course, things didn't really blow up in the mainstream until next year when The Vines and The Hives battled for the MTV2 Award.
So now, for the time being, until you guys remind me of another album that has somehow escaped my attention, these are my favorite albums, looking back at 2001:
1. Muse - Origin of Symmetry
2. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - BRMC
3. The Strokes - Is This It?
4. The White Stripes - White Blood Cells
5. Curve - Gift
6. The Faint - Danse Macabre
7. Ladytron - 604
8. Les Savy Fav - Go Forth
9. Ash - Free All Angels
10. Jimmy Eat World - Bleed American
See, I still give The Strokes their props, even if I don't rate them as high as NME.
Now it's your turn. Go ahead and shoot me your Top 10 albums of 2001 so I may aggregate them together. I believe Radiohead released an album this year as well ...
And if you haven't already done so, or wish to edit your list for the year 2000, just hop back to the previous post, it's the first link above.

this was much more difficult to dial down than the year 2000 was, I have to mention the bands that had great work out in 2001 that I am still listening to quite frequently to this day, they all occupy the 11-25 stream: NERD, Rival Schools, Alkaline Trio, Small Brown Bike, Abilene, MF Doom, M83, Arab on Radar, Explosions in the Sky, Osker
STOP..... JUST STOP. I am not even caught up on your triple mix tape yet... and your on to 2001 albums....
And the problem with the Universe... is right here!
NO WAY IN HELL does "That" band deserve to be in the top 100 albums of all time, much less have 4 in the top 20.
Pathetic.....
All that list means is that more Radiohead Weenies are members of that site than there are NORMAL music afficianado's.
Cody, those links are brilliant and I will add those to future post. Thanks!
Oh Rob ... you had to remind me of M83 ... nope, just outside the top 10. Whew.
The Radiohead ref wasn't really intended as baiting, but since it got you to read, mission accomplished. Muwahahahaha!
ahh, me agin' bones is havin' some real fun Dale! as Rob did declare, this was a hard year to weed out, I think this was the year I realized that good new music was still an option...I'm still recovering from that revelation. I'll # me top five:

2. Gorillaz-Gorillaz

Brian Eno & J. Peter Schwalm-Drawn From Life
Alice Cooper-Dragontown
if it makes you feel any better, i'm involved with NARAS and the release-date issues exist behind their doors as well with Grammy submissions needing to be checked and double checked. it's more complicated than ever since in our digital world there are now multiple release dates for most albums as well as songs that get released earlier for consideration.
TynansAnger - after seeing Cold Vein up on your list, I saw it again on pitchfork's and their discrip. sold me, giving it a listen in a moment, thanks!
Dale - that M83 album is a good one no? it didn't have the salt to make my 10 though. all of these albums were very hard to order, they all float at about the same height for me. i also had a spelling mistake - Saves The Day : Stay What You Are, sorry
