My money's on VV

After having read Mike (zeroskillz) lay out his experience of seeing The Kills in concert, now they drop this ... intense ... video on us for "Last Day of Magic". I personally doubt any malice between the two, but then again, long tours, you never know, right?

  1. Yor, the Hunter from the Future says Interesting question you raise. As I mull it, the possible causes raise more questions. It's getting fractal up in here. Purely anecdotal, but I recently walked down my street and Al Wilson was pouring from a parked blue sedan in which a middle-aged black gent relaxed. So there's at least one old black person out there digging the stuff old white guys do. I'd be surprised though if he later got on MOG and made a fuss about it. Gosh I love this Al Wilson song. Loved it when I was a scamp, love it now through my aches and pains... As for the youngsters - they favor the new and trendy and hip. 'Twas ever thus.

  2. deadmandeadman says Well, good questions, interesting observations & theories. I know that when I was in the service a lot of Brothers were embarrassed by, and very disdainful of, Louis Armstrong. Some would get angry at me for playing his music. But methinks these things are cyclical, as now Mr Armstrong is given his due. I also think certain aspects of the idiom, (especially country blues), are reminders to some of "bad old days". A time and ambiance this generation does not know, and doesn't care to know. But we white guys say all this shit......Any people of color want to weigh in?

  3. NeilNathan says it's one of the wonderful ironies of history that white guy drags black guy out of his homeland, treats him to myriad horrors, and then ulimately celebrates and thieves the resulting power and soul of black guy's music besides the fact that this country, and this whole hemisphere for that matter was built on the backs of these people, what they've given to our ears and hearts is the real gift

  4. missjunk says What a question you have raised. If you go to an all black bar, where there is somebody playing music, you would never see a white musician. But if you go to a white bar, who is playing? Certainly a good black musician. So when a blogger, thinks that blacks don't care anymore about their roots in music, I'm surprised. You should try to get out more, go to some black clubs, visit Memphis, New Orleans, Chicago etc. The black community is not only taking care of their own music (blues and soul) but creating a whole new world of music for us white folks. (ps- Church is free on Sunday mornings, thats where the best black vocal music is)

  8. Anonymous says Dang (edited for you Dale)! That is the exact outfit she wore at the show! Same leopard print shirt over the same black tee that none of us could figure out what was on the front of it. It also explains a bit of the onstage "violence". They were faking headbutts to each other during the song. Vid looks painful.

  9. Anonymous says Blair: Yesh, awesome video. Amber: Yes, it's just you. :P Andi: No kidding, you know what those nails would do? Eeek! Mike: Really? So they maybe took the footage from your show then? Cool!

  10. Anonymous says It's about impossible to pick a favorite form this record, but if forced to choose I'd pick this one. Today, at least. Oh and funny misheard lyric, my friend gets in the car as this is playing and asks,"Did she just say 'my little tomato?'"

  11. Anonymous says No, there's no way the footage was from the show. I could only wish. It's definitely the same outfit though. I did manage to etch that into my retinas. :)

  12. Anonymous says Haha, that's a "whoopsie" but still kinda cute. Now, these guys actually use tomato in a verse, and still rock it out. Mmm, Thurston Moore guesting ...

  13. Anonymous says Oh, and if I had to pick a fave, which is definitely hard to do, it'd be What NY Used to Be.

  14. Anonymous says Haha, bet you did Mike. :P (I would too.) My vote is for "Cheap and Cheerful," not least because it brought Anna over to the *mean side*, if you take my meaning.

  15. Anonymous says I've only recently picked up on The Kills due to exposure on MOG, and this just cements the deal. That is just an insanely great cut, from what I am learning to be an insanely great band. So Thanks for putting this up. Caw

  16. Anonymous says Dale, how could Anna reisist? :) Good to hear you EMCD'd her on it. Ohm, my exposure only spans a few months; just long enough to figure out I loved the new album and that tickets were available for a show nearby. They happen to share a label with Correcto (the side project for Franz Feredinand's lead singer), and I ran across URA Fever when looking up vids for Correcto. It was pure luck, but I couldn't be happier about it. Thanks for stopping by.

  19. Anonymous says Nah, I'm keeping it. Good night. And there's a reason Domino's one of my labels to watch: Between Franz, Correcto, The Kills, These New Puritans, Bonde Do Role, Sons & Daughters ... whew, they have an insanely good roster.

  20. Anonymous says You posted about these guys awhile back & I liked "Cheap & Cheerful" but not enough to seek them out more. You were talking about them at Coachella too. But then Popsavant/Mark posted this album on the dark side & I gave it a listen and it was all over. I'm hooked now. Love this song & vid.

  21. Anonymous says My money on Dale because everybody knows what a fiendish EMCD he is :p What I really like is their chemistry, so brilliantly evident on their records The story of how they teamed up after W heard Hotel playing in his room above hers in a hotel. How they kept on at it over the pond and how it delayed their brainstorming... You know the stuff legends are made of. Personally, I loved their "Keep On Your Mean Side"
