I'm sure you all remember the album Frampton Comes Alive, and I'd even be willing to wager that most of you have heard of the Clash triple-album Sandinista!
Well, as those twin towers of recording excess attest, sometimes more isn't always more.
However, I couldn't bear to think of a good way to winnow all the good songs I've heard this year into anything easier to digest, so I hereby present my 3-CD blowout of my favorite songs from the year 2009. Rest assured, this is no varsity/JV situation here; the good stuff's scattered throughout. ;)

awesome ... I was wondering when the next mix tape would show up :)
I know of this band "Art Brut"

;-)
I can't wait to hear volumes 2 and 3!
Thank you Dale. Have a great Thanksgiving, a joyous Christmas, and an outstanding New Year.
Now I know in advance, what I'll be liking in 20 years:)
Cindy, I do apologize for the delay. There was some blockage, but you get three for your patience.
Dave, once again some great shots and on-the-scene reporting. I love Art Brut, Ediie Argos strikes me as the one musician with whom you could sit and discuss music for hours. Your post only proves that. :)
Andi, give Volume 1 a spin as well, there are four songs that I could not find to add to the playlist. Darn good songs at that, really help flesh out the playlist.
Cody, just call me Nostradamus. Heh.
Nostra-Dale-Us
Nostra-EMCD'd-us!
heehee
Thanks Dale. Many I have heard of but have not checked out yet.
After reading that List, I am familiar with 3 of those songs... THREE!
Which is a good thing, but now I have a GCincinnati post to catch up on, a Planet Mondo post to catch up on, two weeks worth of CodyB post to catch up on, this list to go through........... and I have not even cracked the seal on Robins Shuffles...
Busy Holiday weekend ahead!
Why no Mog Playlist? I really wanna hear this!
There's a playlist for Volume 1, but it's missing four songs that aren't available. I didn't think I was that obscure, but there you go. the link for Vol. 1 is in my comment above.
Maybe I'll take a few minutes and put together Volumes 2 and 3.
I listened to CDs 1 and 2 today. Good work, sir!
Aww, that makes me very happy Andi!
Tyler, I tried to put together a playlist for Volume 2 but it was missing too many songs so I ditched it. Look like you'll have to go to the sendspacelinks above.
Ok, I have gotten thru the first half of the first tape via Lala and Google, no nuggets worth keeping yet, but a few shiney rocks.... but we are in the same ballpark, so I am definately looking forward to getting through a few more as we go through the weekend and have all 3 finished by Monday.
Exploding Boy is the most promising so far. Sonic Youth being the worst however, but only because they are not my cup of tea. They do however get my respect.... UNLIKE RADIOHEAD!
But thats another flag I bare :)
good choices, man. a bunch of the artists already hit my Shuffles that went in this direction but often with "alt-takes" just to hear other stuff. you've got a bunch that i planned on for future Shuffles as well, so maybe i'll continue on that route and pick some hidden gems.
the only problem? it's freakin' sunny and 75 every day here! i'm gonna eat turkey on the beach tomorrow, then head over for a Nor'easter next week. this weather just isn't good enough to make playlists.
So many of these are just falling a hair short.
White Lies, great sound, great voice.. but the lyrics sound like they are written by a 15 year old goth kid... no depth at all. But they sound so great...
Ok, going to bed, I know I will find a nugget in here some where.
Hey, 25 years ago I was a 15-year-old goth kid! Maybe that's why White Lies speaks to me.
I like Goth, just that I listened to two tracks and they lyrics seemed way over simplified. Not ttryinto be critical, just kind of talking out loud as I go through the stuff...
Dale, I am too excited. Of the artists I know, I have barely heard any of the new releases. The rest, I am learning for the first time - I am pretty sure I'd never heard of The Lost Valentinos, Scarlet Youth, Crocodiles until this post, and so many others.
Needless to say, I got this post bookmarked on the Firefox menu bar, no less. I will add that I'm loving Art Brut vs. Satan. (And, oh, Houses! My first overplayed track in the album, fo sho.) Happy happy joy joy, I'll be so busy in the months to come.
Just wanted to say, its week 4, and I still have this thread book marked for future listening.... damn you dale....
Um ... you're welcome?
great music, just a lot of it to sort through is all. With two small kids in the house its hard to find the time to listen to more than 2 or 3 songs at a time 2 or 3 times a week.
