Who?
The Morning After Girls are a five-piece band originally from Melbourne, Australia, who have since migrated to New York. The main driving forces of the band are guitarists/singers Sacha Lucashenko and Martin B. Sleeman. Their music veers from lovely soaring acoustic strums to insanely catchy dream-pop, often within the blink of an eye. Their most recent album Alone was released this past July, and they have been touring non-stop since its release.
And I Care Because?
- Alan Moulder mixed their most recent album. And if you don't know who Alan Moulder is, we're not going to get along very well. (Think Loveless.) There's a reason why the hooks pop out of the mix on Alone, and it's the mixing and productions work; it's what seperates this album from other neo-psychedelic albums recently released like The Worlocks.
- They pick good travel/touring partners. The most recent jaunt about the US found them touring with the afore-mentioned Worlocks and The Vandelles. From the concert reviews I read, they held their own quite well with those titans of noise.
- When they go pop, they do it right. Lead single "The General Public" may be the second-most catchy pop single by an ostensibly noisy rock band this year. It's not the only song of that shape on Alone; "You Need To Die" also would shoot up the pop charts in a perfect world. Maybe at least each song could make a dent on the CMJ chart.
I was going to post a song but LittleMP3 is not working, so at least head over to their Myspace and take a listen. You won't regret it.
So why are you totally biting the "Band of the Day" format?
Just to see if I can. Someone might have to start pimping MBV that way. Muwahahahaha. :)

For a noise band, great sound! Great aping of BoTD. I was tempted to do that too- may still.
Haven't really heard of them, but that's the point of this post of course, to introduce. :P So thanks, I love hearing new sounds. ^^
I have been digging both The Morning After Girls and The Vandelles a lot over the last two weeks!
Once again, Dale - you are right there in my "sonic sensory zone"
;-)
Oh Dale, you know just what juicy and delicious treats to send me. I'll be chewing on The Morning After Girls for a while, I think
i went, and boy, am i not sorry i did. yay, Dale! thanks for another intro.
(can you totally do a Band of the Day thing...? you know my answer to this question. i'm designing campaign tees already.)
LittleMP3 is cooperating now, so here's the tagged track:
Rex, you'll probably see me doing some writing for BotD shortly. So if you see a run of bands like this, you'll know whom to blame.
Stef, I noticed only two MMN posts so I'm more than happy to fill this gap.
Dave, I figured you'd probably like. You probably saw them in NY opening for the Worlocks. *jealous*
Amber, I suspected you would like. Bon Appetit!
Ilay, with an endorsement like this how can I not succeed? :)
nothing like a little music to listen to when dealing with a late night feeding..............liking this a lot
Hope the music doesn't keep the little nipper up too late. ;)
