... and now I have a good reason.THIS, friends, is a tribute done right.
For so long now, "tribute album" has meant a list of grade-C bands trying desperately to sound like their superiors, and failing miserably. (Cleopatra Records, I'm looking you square in the eye when I say that.)
Not this new tribute album for Love and Rockets. This time, we get a lineup of modern luminaries (Frank Black, Snowden, A Place to Bury Strangers) taking the solid songs of Love and Rockets and molting them into something worthy.
There's some great commentary here by some of the bands included, so you can really feel that this is a labor of love.
This uploaded track from Film School really nails it for me. When they switch over to the faster, more aggressive part of the song, and the typical Film School buzz starts, I'm in my happy place.
And don't even get me started on "The Light". Awesome!

And yes, it's been said before, but I'm a HUGE L&R fan.
And I do mean HUGE.
i feel like film school has been following me around lately. they are constantly over my shoulder the last few weeks. maybe i should stop and listen
First off, I'm a sucker for a good cover. I emphasize "good"; however, my standards may not be so high. Although all of that Cleopatra garbage is just that...
Secondly, I have never gotten into L&R but that doesn't mean this isn't going to be the straw breaking the camel's back - a solid tribute album such as this w/ great bands doing reinditions of L&R songs could be just the therapy to break me out of this Loveless and Rocketless funk.
Thanks for the tip - it's in my emusic queue but they're making subscribers buy all 24ish songs (2 CDs if you've got the physical), hence my hesitation. Perhaps the best way to a great band is through those whom they've influenced...?
littlemp3 was real easy, right? Now you have a back-up source for anytime David need to take down the mp3 server for any length of time! Nice selection, by the way.
This track is great BTW - not sure if I'm officially into L&R or Film School!
Love and Rockets uhhhhhh ... (got the Homer face on, drooling).
This is flipping awesome.
Sam, you really should listen. If they're over your shoulder in the shower though ... that's just creepy. brrrrrr
Eric, maybe this will push you into both bands. Film School is pretty awesome on their own. Heh
Rex, this is easy enough that I think I'll do another, this time Monster Magnet's cover of "Mirror People":
And hey, no limits!
Careful Chris, you'll short yr keyboard. That would be very bad.
Dale! Great tracks!
I concur. I wish I had some time to test the new gadgetry. Rest assured that I have not totally tuned out mog.
Why, thank you Jeff.
Amiel, good to see you around. The gadgetry's working fine.
did not even know this came out, looks like I will be looking for something this weekend
It was released in July, just found it this week.
