THE MUSIC BLOGGING HIVE MIND

A challenge, then

Posted about 1 year ago
I defy you, MOGgers, to find a song more twee than this lovely little song from the Acid House Kings, from Sweden's own Labrador Records (__swoon__).The recorded version may be even more twee, as the group plays in front of a chintz-patterned wall. Too cute. And what about the comic appeal of a twee band playing under the name Acid House Kings? Wouldn't you expect something more, well, dancey?

Love me some Cub, Bunny Grunt, Orchids, Tiger Trap, Cloudberry Jam, Wolfie, 800 Cherries, Field Mice and too many to count! Love me some proto-twee too like The Free Design or this awesome track by Jackie Lee for the British TV show "White Horses". 1968 yo!

  25. Dale says OK, I'm officially cheesed. There's a comment of mine that disappeared into the ether. Grrr. Helen, thanks for the contribution. And Swedish, too? Noice! Darla, that kitty's tweetness is off the charts. Wow! Sam, that's some prime proto-twee right there. Ilay, I'm waiting ... :) (grinning wickedly at Michelle) Dear sister, I couldn't give you a better definition than what Neill provided, not to mention a good example. Although, it's clear that Sweden has taken this form of indie rock and made it their own. Mike, consider this your twee primer.

  26. juepucta says See, in the original posted video, the dude with the tambourine? That's my man crush. That guy started Labrador (damn good label) and plays in 2432 bands including the magnificent Legends (putting out great stuff constantly ranging from New Order-like synthy pop to JAMC-fuzzed out pop). The man is a genius and seems to play tribute to all the bands he loves through his own little personal projects. Really. Johan Angergård is making me gay. -G.

  27. Dale says I'm gonna agree with you on Johan being a genius, of that there can be no doubt. The Legends are completely brilliant. Good luck with the man crush, though. ;)

  29. Dale says I had to Google Potbelly, but yeah, they would fit there.
