South Ambulance - more than just a free MP3

Posted over 4 years ago
*Die 5Times Times 5*Oh, they're a charming lot, those Swedes at Labrador Records. On my first foray into their "+website+":http://www.labrador.se, to look up information about The Radio Dept., I found their free MP3 of the month, the tasty morsel of guitar-pop goodness above. Now I've had a chance to listen to their entire debut album, and it's a delight the whole way through.Things get off to a rip-roaring start with "Take Them Out", before turning down the distortion and turning up the charm with "Die 5times Times 5" and "Brunswick Bed".The biggest left turn in the album is seventh track "The Ballad of Duncan Boyle", a bass-and-piano ballad with a pretty savage screed against the singer's parents, especially the father. It's quite emotionally ragged, but also speaks to the healing power of music. I'll go ahead and post it, it deserves an audience.Recommended for fans of: The Radio Dept., Belle & Sebastian, Ride.
