YOU CAN'T NOT GET NO SATISFACTION

Gone random, and funky too

Posted about 1 year ago
Recently, I've been finding it harder to get motivated to exercise. Lack of sleep and grey weather, combined with the stresses of a new position at work, are trying their best to keep me rooted to a chair. In an attempt to shake things up, I decided to utilize a feature of RockBox I've not used before. It allows me to grab a random album, and hit Play. Handy, but also not without risk, as not everything in my MP3 player is running-friendly.This time, it came up aces. I got Tom Vek's debut album We Have Sound. Before I knew it, ten minutes and almost a mile had gone by.It starts off with the lovely "C-C (You Set The Fire)", for which I have provided the video.Third track "If You Want" (take a listen above) hits me as the funkiest number. This album came out in 2005 in the UK, so it's high time this guy gets something more out. It's way too good to make me wait this long. Then, fifteen minutes into my run, I step a bit too heavy and trip the breaker to which the treadmill is attached, stopping the workout.Grrrrr.

  3. jenny says Awesome that you're running...I always put my iPod on random when I do the treadmill, but I will skip past the really inappropriate-for-running stuff. (Tracks over 10 minutes long, super-delicate freak folk, turgid slabs of drone, etc.) Treadmill running is boring enough without that stuff...I only do it about once a week for speed work. Much rather be outside.

  4. Dale says Sarah, I'll have you know that as the breaker tripped, Melissa came down and invited me to do some Tae-Bo with her. Twenty or so minutes later, I was all caught up. And together time with the wife, can't beat that. Thankies Andrea, I do like me some white-boy post-punk funk, Friday or any day. I'll let you handle the funk-fu battles, though. ;)

  6. Dale says It's a little too cold (or I'm a little too wimpy) to run outside, so I run on the treadmill, when it cooperates, about 45 minutes twice a week. I then ride the recumbent bike 45 minutes another two days, and polish it off with some spirited basketball for at least an hour every Wednesday night. Oh yes, and 50 pushups and 150 bicycle crunches every day I work out. Whew! Just writing it out tires me out. ;)

  7. jenny says That's a pretty good schedule you've got there...very impressive. One good thing about treadmills is that you hardly ever get attacked by dogs. (I had one pretty close to biting me this morning, kind of knocked the stuffing out of what would have been a really good run.) But I'd still rather be outside, amazing how fast you warm up, really.
