Yup, it's here. I'm officially too old to even leave a good-looking corpse. Although my wife would beg to differ, haha.
To be honest, last year I was quite depressed about my birthday. Work wasn't going well, there were lots of things going on in and around the family that made the prospect of being 39 not very appealing. I was kicking against the pricks, so to speak. I even left my own birthday party to go play basketball.
In short, I felt just like Robert Smith did when he recorded this nasty little number from Bloodflowers. Go ahead and click the button. "There's nothing left to burn" indeed.
This year, although many of those things that stressed me out still exist, I feel more at peace. I feel comfort in knowing that my mind and body will not automatically fall apart just because my age has a big round number again. My job still stinks, but I feel like I have an escape plan that will work. The family's not perfect, but for the most part we're working together. And I know that whatever comes, I can face it, with my family and friends by my side.
In fact, I'm feeling good enough to share a little something with you all. Behold the family!

Well then, happy birthday! I'm glad things are looking at least a little bti better for you; you certainly deserve it! :)
Happy birthday Dale! And a lovely family you have there. :) Good to here the worries are slowly creeping away. :)
All the best Dale! I think there's 40 on here..

...........You're a lucky man Dale, with a beautiful loving family.
happy birthday dale, I just hit 36 a few days ago and thought of my 40th right away
Happy Birthday Dale. You look really young for forty! Wait, that's not you in the bottom left?
Glad to hear things are looking up for you, here's wishing the best for you and your family for the next 40.
Thanks for the birthday wishes everyone!
Your corpse would look better now than 2 years ago!
Is that a compliment? Hahahahahaaaaaaa.......
Happy Thingies....
Nothing wrong with being 40 dude. Now your over the hill, and ready to roll!! Seriously, I bet you feel better (physically) than you were at 35, no? It's only a number Dale, and we all know, MUSIC is what keeps us all young!!! RAWK on Dale, Happy Birthday! :))
Welcome to the 40's club Dude!
BTW great pic of you, & your family...
Happy bday, Dale! I know I felt older in those creeping "late thirties" than I did after I hit 40. It sounds like you have come out the other side of a period of reflection, and things are looking up! And thanks for sharing the pic.
PS You get to have a big celebration at 42, because that age is the answer to "life, the universe and everything."
A lot of us 42 year olds on here. That's the age Kurt Cobain would have been this year.
Does that mean I'm 40 now as well? Nah, it means that you're really 27 (long live the twins).
40! And out of those 40 marvelous years I'm glad we had the honour to know you and spent time with you for whole 3!
Happy birthday, my dearest! Many happy returns, health, passion, good tunes, and everything your heart desires for you and your family.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
xxxxx
And I can honestly say that these have been the best three years. And heavens yes, long live the twins!
Thank you SO much! xoxo
Happy Birthday ... and for extreme coolness ... I was the 40th MOG IT UP!!! Sweet!!

What they all said, Dale. Happiest. The fam's lookin' good. And just remember: It's a milestone, not a millstone, so keep on rockin' it, man!
You're still just a pup - albeit a pup with a most impressive brood....
