Coachella 2008 - The Teenagers

Posted about 1 year ago
Now that the Coachella lineup is a reality, it's time to get acquainted with some of the bands with which I'm not familiar, and of course, take a moment to get over the fact that My Bloody Valentine was just a tantalizing rumor. Sigh. The Teenagers are a French guitar-pop band that will be playing early on Saturday. I went out to their Myspace last night, and for the most part, I liked what I heard. Their song "Starlett Johanssen" is particularly captivating.Their songs feature earthy spoken-word verses, with soaring sung choruses. They employ some lovely electric organ to keep things interesting.Their lyrics ... well, the parts I can catch are pretty rough. I'm not even touching opener "Homecoming" with a ten-foot pole, it's officially NSFA for me.Dig in, and hopefully I'll get to see loads of you there!

  1. Anna says Cool song and very cool video concept. Make sure you get to see The Horrors and Gogol Bordello for me, since the expenses and the line up don't really help in me coming to meet you...

  2. fistula spume says I just have to say that calling yourself The Teenagers is a smart marketing move. It's what all disposable income pre-teens and tweens aspire to be. I concur with Anna on the song and video. Very stylish.

  3. Lizziegreeneyes says Me likes the video quite a lot a bits... so long as they aren't in conflict with one of the many others... I am very interested in seeing this lot of "teens" heh ;) Now... that said... MOG is killing me today... all these comments getting eaten, all these posts showing up & then disappearing ARG !!!

  5. Dale says Yeah, MOG's kinda annoying me today as well. Oh well, I should be working. Anna dearest, you know both of those bands are playing on Sunday, so as a sign of solidarity, I will be not attending Coachella that day. Well, that's not the primary reason, but it's a nice side benefit. In fact, I'm only buying Friday and Saturday passes, so I'm not even tempted. Believe you me, I am VERY tempted, as the Sunday lineup features most of bands with which I'm familiar and excited to see.

  7. SA says I believe The National are coming to Coachella as well, aren't they? Just make sure you see them if they play on Firday or Satruday. ;) The Teenagers, I don't know, I heard from people who have attended concerts by them that live they disappointed a tad. Hope that after you've seen them you can counter-argument that. :)

  10. Dale says Oh, I fully intend to see The National, they're playing on Friday. And no Lizzie, I'm not leaving early. It just so happens that I don't seek out entertainment on Sunday, so I'm not going to the concert. Instead, I'll be attending Sunday services, reading, and making a HUGE Sunday night meal for when everyone gets back, because that's how I roll.

  13. Bartleby says I'm not particularly keen on the Teenagers who belong to this new trend called the fluo kids which gave us Plasticines and other epigones... But I do like Ms Johanssen

  14. Jammy Jeff says It's a good song for sure, and what's more, I was listening to Radiohead hosting a show on the BBC the other night and they were raving about the band. What better exposure could they ask for ?
