Not quite funky, but my toes are tapping

Posted almost 3 years ago

That Music Without Tears mix that I posted last time led me to go discover the wonders of Pylon. Then I jump on here and discover that there's only two posts here. That's a shame.

The story's been told before, but it bears repeating: When Rolling Stone declared REM the best band in rock 'n' roll in 1987, drummer Bill Berry blew it off and said that Pylon was, in fact, the best band in America. They weren't even active at the time, so that speaks to the influence Pylon had on their fellows from Athens, GA.

The tagged track is an album track from debut album Gyrate, which is well worth the search. And in the interest of more content, please enjoy the video version of first single "Cool", performed for a radio show last year. I think we now know where Beth Ditto from The Gossip got all her ideas, heh.

Maybe not funky but it has a groove. It seems like they should have been big but have been delegated to "underrated." I like the vocals a lot. But maybe I am just parched for vocals because someone in my household (ahem) listens to ambient for many hours a day :)
