WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

So, what did you get?

Posted about 2 years ago
My childhood Christmas memories are a bit more non-traditional than most, less family-centered. Since it was just me and my mom, that made sense for us.My mom would make me wait until breakfast (homemade bran muffins with raisins) to open presents, then would stand back and allow me to go after them all. After looking over everything, and thanking Mom for it all, cane the big fun; putting on the new clothes, grabbing the new toys, and heading out to show my friends all the stuff I got. We'd spend hours swapping notes, checking out each others' gifts, before they'd have to return to their families' parties, and my Mom and I would head to her friend's house for Christmas dinner. Now that I have a family of my own, we tend to focus on the family more, and not let the kids escape to play with their friends for a day or two, but the day has come to get out of the house and show off a bit.My haul this year:Brown fake-leather jacketBlue cable-knit sweaterBlack slacks (size 36, w00t!)Adidas cologne setBook of guitar chords (the better to learn to play)And the crown jewels:Factory Records: The Complete Graphic AlbumWOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW!!!!!andRip It Up And Start Again: Post-Punk 1978-1984I can't wait to dive into this one!

  3. asrati says A pair of socks with body and no holes starts to look more than impressive, once you've tasted the razzle-dazzle of the world and returned to get dressed on a Tuesday morning.

  6. Anna says Excellent, bro! Very nice! A bouquet of purple flowers and a bracelet from a friend of mine. A fantastic card from Neill and my secret Santa's (hey John!) awesome gift :)

  7. Dale says Ouch Blair, _socks_? That stinks. Nope, Melissa didn't make the sweater. She's just learning cable knitting on some socks for her dad right now.

  8. gympumpkin says Dale, would socks still suck if they were hand made from very comfy yarn? I ask because I might start my first pair this week, and I need to know if they are worthwhile gifts to make.

  9. Dale says I suppose asrati, but socks don't exactly make the eyes twinkle, unless they're homemade with love in every stitch. (giggling at AA Coppertop's quip) Tyler, the Factory book is so gorgeous! Then again, I'm a sucker for everything Factory. I'll be tucking into Rip It Up later tonight. Wow Anna you scored bigtime! Love the Edward Gorey books! Let us know how that Amy Winehouse DVD looks, please? Oh yeah, I just got my card from Neill as well. And I failed to re-mention Amber's gift. Of course, I'm waiting for one more thing. ;)

  11. Joxley says Customised, made to order, graphic t shirts shipped to my door straight from Phoenix Arizona, courtesy of "indieshirts.com":http://indieshirts.com/browse.html...I guess this makes me a hipster, lol. And of course plenty of pictures of the Queen that I can trade in for all sorts of music... And socks!

  12. Dale says Whoops Andi, I should have specified. See my comment to asrati. I have the sneaking suspicion that Blair didn't get handmade socks with love in every stitch. As your socks would be handmade, with love in every stitch, they'll make lovely gifts. In fact, I asked Melissa for a pair that would b real thick, more like slippers. Nice with the T-shirts Jox, as well as the pix of the Queen. We got lots of pictures of dead presidents that we then ... redeemed for groceries. Yawn.

  13. gympumpkin says Yeah, I figured Blair didn't get handmade socks either. I like getting socks, though, because those are the sorts of things I hate buying for myself.

  25. democlez says Our family tradition is to get up early, open the gifts in our stockings and the gifts from Santa (yes, we still do that). Then we have breakfast, usually waffles with strawberry sauce and whip cream. After we all gather round' the tree and distribute the gifts and go at it. This year I got 2 CDs: Neverending White Lights - Act II: the blood and the life eternal and Nine Inch Nails - Y34RZ3R0R3M1X3D. 2 DVDs: Clerks 2 and What the Bleep Do We Know - Down the Rabbit Hole Quantum Edition. 2 Books: The Secret by Rhonda Byrne and A Walk in Portland, Oregon by Chuck Palahniuk.
