This playlist may cause unbearable bouts of wanderlust, a desire to hit the open road, and an inability to maintain posted speed limits.

1. Depeche Mode - Behind The Wheel/Route 66 (Megamix) (7:49)
2. Section 25 - Carcrash (3:43)
3. Swervedriver - Pile-Up (3:42)
4. Curve - Speedcrash (3:54)
5. Ride - Drive Blind (4:45)
6. My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult - Sex On Wheelz (4:00)
7. Nitzer Ebb - Lakeside Drive (4:00)
8. The Faint - Cars Pass In Cold Blood (2:40)
9. Nada Surf - Hi-Speed Soul (4:39)
10. The House Of Love - Love In A Car (3:58)
11. Havana 3AM - Joyride (2:55)
12. Stan Ridgway - Drive She Said (4:18)
13. Mercy Arms - Speed (5:13)
14. Black Rebel Motorcycle Club - Stop (5:01)
15. Elastica - Car Song (2:24)
16. Buzzcocks - Fast Cars (2:26)
17. Girls Against Boys - Speedway (3:43)
18. Cinematics - Asleep At The Wheel (6:09)

As a side note, I'm really embarrassed to say this, but I hadn't heard "Hi-Speed Soul" before putting it in here, and now I cannot get enough of it. I've really been sleeping on Nada Surf for way too long.

Let's be careful out there ...

The other revelatory song to me was Mercy Arms, an Australian band that recently broke up. What a shame, especially since they've got something special here.

Thank you Dale!! I'm adding Nada Surf to my cross-counrty mix... This song in particular will be part of the "crossing the desert" mix.

The US is huge and I need music to fill my voyage this summer!

That's a very yummy playlist, brother, and what a morbid-implying way to close it ;)

Mercy Arms are new to me as well, that song sounds lovely.

    /EMCD on...

trend, that song worked nicely for "crossing the Ozarks", which is what I did all morning and evening yesterday. It should work out well for you.

Anna, it makes me riotously hapy that you approve. I'll admit that the final song had a bit too much pull on me late last night as I drove home, but it's such a good song as an album-closer that it had to be there.

    /EMCD for life, yo. :)

Nice list! You just get a ticket?

No ticket, thanks goodness, although there was a touchy moment where a cop turned on his signals and pulled over in front of me, only to pull a U-turn and head the opposite direction. Good thing, as I was 10 mph over the limit.

It's not posted anywhere just yet Laura, I'll try to post it later tonight. Then again, I did burn it onto CD and I'll see you in 24 days. Just sayin' ...

"...unbearable bouts of wanderlust, a desire to hit the open road, and an inability to maintain posted speed limits."

That was me back in the first half of the 90s.

I was battin' down I-65 between Montgomery and Mobile on my way to New Orleans, and i had Motorhead's "Angel City" playing at 2:30 AM and i was doing close to a hundred MPH (I blame it all on Lemmy) when a possum-on-the-half-shell wandered out on the road ahead of me.

I missed the stupid thing (Texas joke - Why did the chicken cross the road?  To prove to the armadillo that it could be done.).

And i made three loops at 95+ MPH down the middle of I-65.

You know they say "There are no atheists in foxholes"?  Let me tell you about spinning cars...

Wound up at rest, middle of the road, crosswise, engine dead ... cranked it up, decided which way was south, and went on my way.

But any armadillos i meet on the road in the future better ray there's an armadillo Heaven, a'cos their tickets are already punched.

Whoa, easy there Galen, let me put up the "home is where the heart is" playlist before we make any rash decisions. ;)

Mike, I had no idea that Armadillos travel as far as Alabama. I can't imagine how much praying I'd be doing if caught spinning at 100mph, yikes!
