WHERE MUSIC LISTENS TO YOU

Heheheh

Posted over 2 years ago
A few weeks ago, I got a call from my father-in-law. When he calls me, it can be only one of two things: either he needs help with his laptop, or he has a music question. This time, it was the latter, to my relief. This time, he had seen the following commercial, and wanted to know if I knew who was singing that song.I told him that, yes indeed, I did know the artist in question, and even had her most recent album. I then offered to burn him a copy of The Reminder and send it on to him. I did warn him that the album is quite diverse, and not all the songs sound like that. I sent it on, and didn't think about it.Well, will wonders never cease. He called my wife's phone, but since she was in bed sick, I answered. He then informed me that he had received the CD, and told me how much he liked it. (!)This lends credence to my latest musical theory, which is as follows:*There's not a person alive that can resist Feist, if only willing to give her album a spin.*Yes, I am THAT shameless; I EMCD my own family. Muwahahahahaha!

  1. Cody B says Gruesomely evil. I even own Feist, despite the fact that 90% of the music I buy was recorded before 1980.

  2. dondeluxe says i never get sick of that song. when my baby was screaming her head off last month i had the feist album spinning nightly along with a steady diet of punk and metal. oh and beulah.

  3. Misstee says Gotta say i've been resisting quite happily. Given my tastes I should dig her but I don't...can't really explain why.

  4. dondeluxe says BTW i had to google EMCD. nice

  5. amber says Your family is lucky to have you to help their ears to hear. BTW, I still question whether you are really evil....I agree with the MCD part, but evil? This will need more investigation. What should I listen to next? :)

  6. tybees says You know it's bad when you start dealing to your own family members.

  7. chucky says I think I'm immune to Feist. I love her voice, but I'm all meh on the music itself.

  8. Dale says Amber and don, the genesis of EMCD can be found "+in this post from the recently returned Ashley.+":http://mog.com/chucky/blog_post/36853 Now, it has been my contention all along that it's not evil at all to expose someone to music that's really good. I mean, it's not like I'm pushing the new Spice Girls, right? I had threatened to send my f-i-l some Raveonettes, as he has a serious fifties jones. I may just have to do it now. He'll actually listen to the CD's I burn for him.

  9. chucky says Just because it's really good doesn't mean it's not evil. Watch: I like Authority Zero. I do not like stuff like Mew. You make me realize I like Mew. Whitney Houston liked cocaine. She did not like crack. Bobby made her realize she liked crack. Much as crack is whack, Mewing the masses is Evil. (That's right - the E is capital.)

  10. satisfiedmind2 says Feist has officially gone 'Father In Law' big....amazing!

  11. Dale says It's way too late now for me to try to mess with your logic, Ash. Besides, you know I heart you too much. It's the iPod ad, B ... those things are like magic.

  12. satisfiedmind2 says Those ads have sold SO many albums..er Itune tracks anyway

  13. Girlcrawl says Think your 'musical theory' regarding Feist is spot on!

  14. ivylander says Until I read this post, I was under the obviously false impression that turning people on to Feist was a public service, and a boon to one's karma....

  15. Lizziegreeneyes says meh on Feist... Ash & I share this view I guess... she just hasn't wooed me properly... don't know how to go about it... I've never wooed myself, but she give me no woo, you w00t, Feist, no w00t.

  16. Dale says It is, Bill, it is, but _some_ (jerks thumb toward Ashley) would tell you otherwise. I'm just disappointed that my new musical theory is being disproved right before my eyes.

  17. Dzendvokh says So, obviously I'm way late on this conversation, considering I have been putting off listening to this album since it came out, but it's safe to say that your theory stands strong with me.

  18. mickimicki says I mean in your FIL's case I don't see the Dealer angle is a problem. Because you _burned_ him the Crack at no cost... of course now, if he went out and started spending his retirement money on more Feist music or refusing to work in places where he can't listen to them, or in general, if the need to have Feist started interfering what's supposed to be his "normal" lifestyle... – that's where things get Evil..... SO, Dale, you'll probably have to burn more CDs or give him eMusic for Christmas. To keep him on the righteous path... Well that's just in my interpretation of EMCD, of course.

  19. Joxley says I certainly couldn't resist her...

  20. darmuzz says Just recently I was thinking that The Reminder is the album everyone will be buying their parents this Christmas!
    Permalink posted 11/10/2007
  21. Dale says Of the scenario you suggest happens, Micki, he'll have more issues to deal with, like his wife kicking his butt. Great minds think alike, Darla.

  22. kristiana says You beat me to it - I decided I had to give Feist some props too, you know, after gushing about Emily like usual. Yeah, beats me how someone could not like the new album. The previous one, yeah, I was not so into, except for that Mushaboom song which is just so sweet. Supposed to be seeing her at the end of the month! :) Oh, and Dale - are you still dieting? You wasting away to nothin' there...?
    Permalink posted 11/10/2007
  23. Dale says I'm not really dieting in the sense that I'm consciously trying to lose weight anymore. Now, I'm still eating the same amount, and working out just as much, and whatever my weight does, it does. I passed all my weight loss goals a while ago. And enjoy the concert, K. :)

  24. Anna says I don't want to be the party-pooper, but I gave Feist many chances and nothing happens. There is something in her tone of voice that feel pretentious and fake and I just can't get over that. Sorry :(
    Permalink posted 11/10/2007
  25. Dale says It's OK; I'm well-aware of your finicky nature with female vocals. Besides, Misstee and Lizzie trashed the theory earlier.
    Permalink posted 11/10/2007
  26. QueenofHell says I have The Reminder and really like it.
    Permalink posted 11/10/2007
  27. Melies says Well, I will give her a spin, that's for sure ;-)
    Permalink posted 11/10/2007
  28. Jonh Ingham says I'm still manfully resisting, coz my addiction tolerance is high. So far Mog has slipped me a free Feist about half a dozen times and I may be weakening, but....

  29. extraordinarypoems says Love it. Thanks.

  30. Marigold says Great Post Dale. I had similar to Anna's thoughts on Feist until I saw her live. Feist live in a smaller venue (like the First Ave.) is to die for. That girl can really shread on the guitar. I always loved this live clip of Secret Heart, it shows that great rock and roll sound. Very nice EMCD. I am truely jealous. I would love to EMCD my own Dad someday.

  31. Torch says Sold! I'll look past her pushing that over-marketed product from the new evil, because the music is good enough to trump it.
