To know him is to love him

I feel pretty fortunate to have three outstanding boys as my offspring. To borrow a phrase from a classmate, if I was not their father I'd still want to know them. In their different ways, they're just outstanding people.
Jordan has always held a specal place in my heart, though. I'm not sure if it's an unconscious decision to take special care of him so he doesn't become the classic "middle child syndrome", but we've always just clicked. For the most part, he's really low-maintenance, bopping his way through life with a smile on his face and a song in his heart. With the rest of the drama in the house, it's nice to have such a happy-go-lucky soul around.
He also shares his father's predilection for flowery language, and has been ahead of the curve in that way his entire life. We still fondly recall the tale of him visiting a friend's house and exclaiming how "wonderful" and "marvelous" their bathroom was, at age 4. I've taken to telling him that he's perverted by language. Yes, from the Fall album. I've been hanging around Michael too long. ;)
He also says some of the most randomly funny things. For instance, last Monday we were in the car headed to his grandma's for dinner, and he was talking to Josh about something he was trying to do with some difficulty. Josh offered to help, to which Jordan shot him down with these bon mots: "No way! I work alone! I'm Batman!" Melissa and I both LOL'd to that one the rest of the night.
Bringing this post back around to music, on Thursday Melissa took Jordan out shopping, where they were subjected to some bad country music. They were both suffering, but Jordan took it to another level. He told Melissa, "Mom, this music hurts my soul." Heh.
The tagged song was the song from Melissa's Valentine's Day mix that he turned up as we drove today, letting me know how much he liked it. Good boy.

Dang, by the title of the post I assumed this was going to be about me or Phil Spector. Since it's about one of your own children having the sense to crank the tunes, I'll forgive you this time. You'd better hope Phil does.
isnt the best when your kids show love for a song you love as well. One of the best things about being a parent I swear
Ain't that wonderful :)
And he's Batman! Oh oh oh! This family simply has too much talent.
As a kid I said "this music make my brain hurt" over some horrible song. We are related, I'm telling you.
Good for you and your clan, Dale. Always nice to be reminded about the joys of parenting. I guess we hear too much about the struggles - or, in some cases, experience them. (And t'was nice to get some smokin' sounds from Friendly Fires as a bonus here.)
Friendly Fires...love them.
Nice to learn a little more about you and yours, Dale
After re-reading this, I forgot to emphasize the matter-of-fact tone in which he declared that he is Batman. Delivery is everything, after all, and his is along the lines of Steven Wright.
Rob, I apologize for the confusion. I can only hope that Mr. Spector doesn't take to lying in wait for me at LAX, which is highly unlikely. Not that he'd try to shoot me or anything like that, oh no...
Kevin, it is one of the great joys in life. I feel fortunate that he hasn't tuned my music out yet, unlike his older brother.
I will let him know that Aunt Anna said the same thing; I'm sure that will delight him to no end. :)
Mike, it's moments like this that help with the inevitible struggles. It's incumbent upon me (and other parents) to focus on the good things, and let the bad things slide.
And yes, Friendly Fires are the awesome ... Annie says so.
He probably takes after his father, my parents always tell me that good things come from the parents, the negative things they blame each other for. ;)
Lovely post. And thanks for reminding me to go see Friendly Fires in two weeks. :)
